Region settings for HP Photosmart D7160

I have just had to buy new ink cartridges for my HP D7160 for the first time. The cartridges that came with the printer have the code 177 on them and the new ones have the code 363 on them and the printer will not recognize them. I e-mailed tech support how said the printer was set to region 3 (Africa) and would need to be set to region 2 (Europe) and that I would have to contact HP by phone. After 30 minuets on the phone at 60p per minute I am still non the wiser. Is there any one who can tell me hoe to change the region settings

I am having the same problem with the photosmart C6183 I bought when I lived in Dubai. HP said they need to change the region setting but cannot do it and want to sell me an exchange printer. Is that a con or what?

    hi,

i have same problem as you guys. I bought my HP Photosmart 2608 all-in-one in China (where I was living) 3 years ago using 853 and 857 cartridges. But since I moved to Europe can't use them now, because these cartridges are region 4 and I need region 2. At the local market I can only find 338 and 343 cartridges. Does anyone know how to program this printer? Try to refill colour cartridge, but the indicator dissapears from the screen and although the ink is full, it still shows that level is low. Any idea how to reset ink level.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike

We purchased our HP 7525 All-in-One printer in the U.S and then moved to Paris, France. When the original U.S ink ran out we followed the instructions on the HP web site on which ink cartridges to buy (364XL). When we installed them the printer reported that the new cartridges were not compatible with the printer. We called HP support and they reset the region codes for the printer by remote access to our computer. This took about an hour all said and done and there was no charge for this service, even though the printer itself was 3 months out of warranty. A few recommendations that seemed to help us through this process:

1) Use the HP web site to identify which cartridges are compatible in your new region.
2) Purchase the new cartridges before you call HP support, but don't install them.
3) Use the HP email support form to submit your support request before calling the HP support phone number.
4) Have a USB printer cable available since they will need that in order to perform the region reset, seems they can't use wireless networking to perform this support task.

Good luck!

HP print cartridges are now 'zoned' as stated above. You have to re-regionalize your printer, and this is done by typing in a code supplied by technical support, and can only be done 3 times in the life of the printer.

I have at last got this problem sorted unfortunately you will have to phone HP tech support as you need a code that the tech guy will give you but if you call 08443690369 chose option 2 in warranty it'll only cost 8p per minuet and just say you bought your product within the last 12 months they don't question it. Although I was still on the phone for 45 minuets.

HP Tech Support sorted this out for me - even though my printer is out of warranty I called the 0844 number (5p/min) and they helped.
The solution seemed printer-dependent since it involved generating a number based on my serial number, which was then entered into a secret dialog within the printer driver (Ctrl-double click the HP logo, bottom left corner in the "Printing preferences" driver dialog.)
My number was 0285 2652 5796 4163 9667 - wonder if that will work for you!?
Hope that helps

You can try this, but I still thing you need HP tech support to tell you which numbers you should enter, because they vary from printer to printer.

  1. You should have your printer connected to a windows PC with a USB cable even if it is a network printer.
  2. Press * and # keys to bring up the "Mfg Commands" screen. I assume this is only used by HP service staff.
  3. The "Mfg Commands" screen asks you to "Enter special key combo" which is 123 then press ok.
  4. Use the right arrow key to step through the menus until you find the "Special Reports" menu then press ok.
  5. Use the right arrow key again to find the "Print Cartridges" menu and press ok
  6. This will print out a page with numbers ranging from 11. to 74. This page will print regardless of the print cartridges in the printer and whether they are valid print cartridges.
  7. The numbers of interest to HP support will be 11,21,25,52,62
  8. They will use the above information to generate a new set of five lots of 4 numbers.
  9. You will need to enter the 5 lots of 4 numbers onto a windows PC which has the HP drivers installed.
  10. On a windows PC with HP drivers installed open notepad and select print to bring up the printer dialog .
  11. Click on "preferences" in the print dialog window to open the HP preferences dialogue.
  12. Holding down the control key double click the HP icon in the bottom left corner of the preferences dialogue to open a service maintenance menu which will allow you to enter 5 lots of 4 digit numbers which HP staff will provide.
  13. Once you have entered the 5 lots of 4 numbers and press ok a data file is sent to the printer which changes its region settings.
  14. You then have to switch the printer off for about 1 minute then back on again and your new cartridges should now be valid.
Or try this, but I'm not sure if it works:
  1. press *# together
  2. press 127
  3. change from user to mfg mode
  4. shut down restart
  5. press power button after a graphic screen
  6. see rainbow screen
  7. press power button again

I keep getting ink system failure on my d7160 printer

Turn off the machine using the power button, unplug the power cord from the back of the machine, remove the ink cartridges, wait 2 min, press the power button to turn on the machine, wait until the printer prompts that the ink cartridges are missing, then reinstall the ink cartridges. If this doesn't fix the problem you may have to re-prime ink through the system. There is a good explanation of how to do this at http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-photosmart-ink-system-failure-1/.

HP Photosmart all in one C3180

My suggestion: Don't buy HP. I have the same region coding problem. All I want to do is buy HP ink, put it in my HP printer and print stuff. Too hard. I've wasted 30 pounds on ink and another 30 pounds on "support" phone calls to HP. Hopeless. I will never buy HP again. Waste of time and money.
