SOURCE: TV picture and audio disappears for minutes at a time
I'm having the same problem and believe it has to do with the lamp, from my online research. Sony has listed that they had problems with the access door to the lamp and through March 31, 2009 will repair the lamp access door and any other components damaged as a result at no charge for any of the covered televisions (KF50WE610 included), To schedule a repair call 888-649-7669.
Here's the super long link or search sony for warping. http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=http--esupportsonycom-perl-news-itemplnewsid261templateid1regionid1KSMFlag7370&sliceId=&docTypeID=DT_NEWS_ALERTS_1_1&dialogID=15656064&stateId=1%200%2015658185
My tv is doing the same thing: picture and audio disappearing for minutes at a time with the power light staying lit. My online research leads me to think the lamp is the problem. Indeed, I found Sony's instructions to replace the lamp, and found my access door to be warped and melted in places. I can also see that there's some warping surrounding the lamp as well. So my point is if this problem is being caused by the lamp needing replacement, and if the lamp is damaged and falls under their extended warranty above that replaces components damages as a result warping, this might all get fixed for free. My appointment is scheduled and I believe I have a good chance of them replacing not only the access door, but the interior including the lamp at no charge and that my tv will again work.
Since I've seen our problems listed on this site with other sony models---and that replacing the lamp seems to have helped almost everyone--the fact that Sony will come out for free is great. The instructions from sony at http://www.docs.sony.com/release/XL2100U.pdf and if your access door is warped, then you get a free fix, and hopefully they will fix any inside damage as well, including the lamp. It's a free call, so worth a try.
The Picture Off mode could be enabled if the picture is visible for a while. To check if this is the case, press any button on the remote other than power or volume. If it is, press Menu. Enter the Picture sub-menu and select Picture Off. Disable the feature. This feature is described in the E-manual for the 6350 series TVs here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/2014-led-tv-h6350-series . See http://www.manualsdir.com/manuals/421041/samsung-un32h5500afxza-un32h6350afxza-un50h6400afxza-un48h6400afxza-un65h7150afxza-un60h6350afxza-un65h6400afxza-un48h6350afxza-un40h5500afxza-un60h7150afxza-un46h7150afxza-un50h5500afxza-un75h7150afxza-un60h7100afxza-un55h6350afxza-un40h6350afxza-un55h63.html?page=163 for just the page on the picture off mode. If the picture is dim at times, check if the eco solution mode is enabled (System > Energy Savings).
If the screen is always dark, then the back light is not working. This can be caused by the failure of the LED back lights or the inverter that powers the backlighting. If you see a faint image when you shine a flashlight at the TV, this could the problem. The inverter usually fails before the LEDs. Replacing the inverter requires opening the TV and could have a shock risk. Replacing the backlighting requires separating the LCD panel from the bezel and getting between the layers at the edge of the panel.
I hope this helps.
