Hi, i suggest you wait for your computer to configure the usb cable, it might take some time, but after a while if doesn't, i advice you get another usb cable to charge, it is possible that the usb cable might be bad.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE INSERTED THE BATTERIES PROPERLY AND THE RIGHT WAY, EVEN WITH PHONES THERE SHOULD BE AN ICON SHOWING YOU THAT UNIT(S) ARE CHARGING. FAILING THAT CHECK WITH ANOTHER SET OF BATTERIES AND REMEMBER TO CHECK THE FUSE IN THE PLUG

What I am guessing, that
1. The hand set is charging, but you are not finding anything on the display.
2. You are not gitting the charging facilities.
To solve #1, this is necessary upgrade software.
For #2, contact a skilled mechanic who will check the spares
related to charging alongwith the fault (if there is any) with your charger.
You can try charging the unit with the supplied uSb cable but the output on the USB is so low that it might only partially charge the battery or it will take eons to charge
