I purchased this mouse last week. Installed the batteries, plugged the USB receiver in - everything worked perfectly from the start. Two days later, I noticed my mouse wasn't responding. I found that the LED was no longer red, so assumed that the power was off. Pulling the receiver out for a time and returning it solved the problem for a while. This happened twice. Then the power didn't return at all.
I took this to mean that the batteries had died. Earlier today I purchased replacement batteries and some rechargeable batteries. Neither disposable or rechargeable had any effect. I've tried pressing the connect switch on the USB receiver to no avail. Rebooting hasn't helped.
The rapid loss of functionality resulting in complete inoperability tells me that there may be a short. So it may mean that while I was futzing with the USB reciver, the power came back on its own and the problem has nothing to do with the receiver. There is no on/off switch on this mouse that I can locate.
I'm not an expert and certainly don't think myself to be. Perhaps someone out there can give me a hand? Much appreciated.

Two findings of note: First, I located a "connect" button on the underside of the mouse. Pushing this did nothing. However, I did play with that, the USB receiver, and even tried to switch the batteries. I found that the batteries were warm. Not sure if that means anything. Thanks again.
