Canon PowerShot SD 630 Digital Elph "Memory Card Error"

Aloha,

I bought a new SanDisk 8GB SDHC memory card for my old reliable SD 630 Elph but everytime I turn it on I receive a "Memory Card Error".

I can't 'Format' the card because that selection in the Menu mode is inaccessable.

The very same 8GB card works in my SD 750.

And I my 2GB SanDisk card works fine in the SD 630.

ANY insight would be gratly appreciated.

Mahalo~

Hi,
I'm sorry to tell that PowerShot SD 630 does not support SDHC cards over 2 gig.
If you want the camera to take a card over 2 gig then you are stuck standard SD cards.
The other camera does support the card because it's a higher model.

Regards.

Memory card locked

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Normally, you can only insert an SD card one way. Try a different SD card or check to see if the SD card you're using has the "write protect" switch on. If that's not the issue try formatting the card in your PC and then format it in the camera.

I am getting memory card error with canon powershot a410

The A410 works with SD cards. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card and won't work in devices not designed to use them. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

If your camera is the type that uses SD cards, then your problem is that the camera was developed in 2004 before SDHC cards were invented. Your camera cannot use them.

Hi there! I have a Canon PowerShot SD700 is. I have bought a Sandisk 8 GB. My camera cannot read it. It says: Memory Card Error. What can I do about it? Many thanks for your help

The SD700 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, which max out at 2GB.

Getting memory card error when I install an 8GB Sandisk card

Some digital cameras can handle large memory cards as they are unable to format or manage that size of memory. Check your user manual which will tell you the maximun size allowed.

Inserted new memory card error message:memory card error unable to access format under menu

I'm guessing that you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with your camera.

You'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.
