I have a pioneer gm-x 304 amp. I want to know what are the lpf-off-hpf switches for< and what sdhould I set the input levels to?

lpf is low pass frequency. You would want to have it turned on if you are running a sub off the amp.

The problem here is that you can't ask someone what your settings should be. Each person's taste in music and volume level differ. The best thing to do is to put in a CD with the type of music you like to listen to most. Turn the volume up to your preferred listening level. From there, go into your menu and adjust to what you like, and what you want to hear from your music. As a base line, usually your HPF should be in the middle or offset somewhere to the right. It's basic design is to keep whatever is below that frequency out, and whatever is above that stays in. What I mean by that is that if you were to set it to say 100hz, everything 99 hz and below does NOT come out of those speakers. Conversely, the LPF is designed for your mid, low range speakers.

go into your settings in the deck by holding down the volume on most models for 10 seconds then change your hpf settings and your lpf settings your bass will sound much better and not cut out. hpf recommended 160......lpf recommended 140.... good luck

is the positive cable hooked to the battery or the fuse box and it sounds like a grounding problem

Hello rwalinske, The abbreviations "hpf" and "lpf" stand for High Pass Filter and Low Pass Filter. They do exactly what their names imply. They allow frequencies above or below a specific setting, while blocking or attentunating frequencies below or above the setting. There's also a "band pass filter" which allows frequencies within a specific range below the high setting and above the low setting. Finally there's a "subsonic" filter which blocks inaudible frequencies below the threshold of hearing. The hpf is generally used in speaker component systems to send the high frequencies to the tweeters. The lpf is normally used with subwoofer systems and is set to send frequencies below the setting to the subwoofer. While most amps will amplify a wide range of frequencies, they are more efficient when the range is limited depending on their intended use. For example, a typical 2-channel amp might have a frequency response of 20-20KHz. When used to drive a set of normal speakers, you would not use either the lpf or the hpf, but simply let it send all frequencies to the speakers. But when used to drive a subwoofer, and operated in "bridged" mode, the amp can put all of it's amplifying power into frequencies than can be used by a subwoofer if the lpf switch is turned on. OK, you say that the amp won't get your RF Punch's to pound. You do not say if you get any output at all. So let's start from the beginning.

The KAC-X542 is a multichannel amp with 2 sets of stereo outputs, 1 set of stereo outputs and 1 bridged connection for sub(s), or 2 bridged connections for sub(s).

Make sure that both 30A fuses just to the left of the power connections are good.

Check that the "ID number" is set to "0". Make sure that you have RCA inputs to both channels A and B (leftmost pairs of jacks). Your subs should be connected to the 1st (+) and 3rd (-) of each set of output terminals.

Make sure that there are no broken off plugs or pins in the jack marked "H/U Terminal" or either of the 2 jacks marked "remote".

Check that the amp is set up for 2-channel bridged. The 6 switches below the filter controls and the filter pots should initially be set:
1 - Middle position (off)
2 - Up position (on)
3 - Down position (off)
4 - Up position (mono)
5 - Down position (off)
6 - Up position (mono)
The pots should be set approximately:
LPF - minimum
HPF - maximum
Input Sensitivity - match your head unit - probably between 1 - 3
HPF - maximum
Input Sensitivity - match your head unit - probably between 1 - 3
After you get the speakers working, the LPF, HPF and Input Sensitivity can be tweaked for best sound and lowest distortion.

If I'm reading the amp manual right, you should be able to connect the amp in 3 channel mode. To do this:

• Connect both left door speakers in parallel to Ch A Left.
• Connect both right door speakers in parallel to Ch A Right.
• Bridge Ch B and connect it to the new 8" sub.
• Set the Ch A LPF/HPF to HPF.
• Set the Ch B LPF/HPF to LPF.

This should allow you to run all 4 door speakers and the sub from the amp. It will also automatically route non-bass to the door speakers and "only bass" to the sub.

You would have to contct Jensen for the parts. As far as I know, they will not release schematics. If you were going to repair it and needed generic information about the repair, let me know and I'll try help. The following page will help guide you through simple repairs.
