The dvd keeps spinning, never plays!! just shows a pic of small dvd in upper corner spinning HELP

it is the wrong format dvd,you cant play it in that player,it is pal format you need ntsc,it might be a setting on your dvd player too,but,you didnt post that info

Maybe the lasers ok but the disc motor is not spinning the disc.

You can use a dvd ripper to convert dvd to h.264, then use itunes to transfer dvd files to you ipad. Here is a tutorials for this: http://www.dvdconvertersoft.com/how-to-convert-dvd-to-h-264/

Sounds like your laser mechanism is no longer capable of reading a disk. If it does it with other disks then you can be sure of the diagnosis.

And due to parts cost and labor a repair is usually not cost effective.

In your iDVD project go into the DVD Map menu.
(Little flow chart like icon in the bottom-middle of the iDVD menu screen.)

Look for the very first icon in the map. (Upper left)
This has a small DVD symbol and a play icon on it.
Delete this icon.
Re-burn your DVD.
The menu should be shown first now when you play the DVD.

If the unit is showing "invalid disk" on every disk that you try to play, unfortunately, the unit has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. Our warranty is 90 days from the date of purchase. If you've had the player longer than 90 days, I regret to inform you it is out of warranty.

sounds like the blu ray diode is burnt.
Send it to Sony for warranty replacement

Newer DVD224 is actually DVD-224ss - small print on front of manual. There are two possible hacks:

DVD224SS (This worked for me)
1. Open the DVD tray
2. Press STOP button on the remote control
3. Press 70
4. Press MENU
5. Use the numeric keypad to select your region code number (0 – 6).

OR

DVD224 (224SS)
1. Open the DVD tray
2. Press STOP button of remote control
3. Press the digit number buttons “2008” of remote control.
4. Press MENU
Region code will appear, select your region code number.

Its defective. Coby doesn't repair the units. The lense is off balance which is causing the laser to not read the dvd/cd.

Check to see if the disk is dirty, has fingerprints or is scratched. This has happened to me in the past and if dirty, cleaning it will correct the problem.
