Maytag msd2454gr Freezer and refrigerator stopped cooling. I hear a loud "click" from the compressor ever few minutes. The compressor is also very hot, I don't know if that is normal. Any suggestions?

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

if the freezer is warm check the start device on the compressor,part number 12002784.the compressor won't run and you'll hear a clicking sound coming from the back every 3 to 5 minutes

compressor pulling locked rotor. what your hearing is your current relay energizing. compressor goes off on internal overload protection and then tries to restart a few minutes later. unfortunately compressor needs to be replaced. sometimes a hard start relay will free rotor up. it can be purchased at a refrigeration supply house.

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running.If no check starter/overload relay. Remove the cardboard backing from the back bottom to access the compressor area.

compressor relay shot. needs ground wire to frame of fridge also.

Unplug the ref for a couple of hours ( let the compressor cool off) plug it back in. If it still clicks, replace the relay, if the compressor still won't start then the compressor is bad. Last rights at this point would be appropriate.

For what it is worth. I had this problem twice and both times the compressor ad to be replaced. Ton this day it sounds like a pin pong game whenever it runs. No it is not the fans or the ice maker.
