Kitchen Aid refrigerator is making a very loud noise!

We just moved this to our garage from my mother's house. It is at least 5 years old. Upper freezer. The refrigerator took about 1 and a half days to get cold - is that normal? The freezer only took a few hours. It has been plugged in 3 days now and this morning I noticed a very loud noise coming from it. It was so loud I unplugged it in case something blew! There are items already stored in the unit. What is the noise?

When you transported this unit did you lay it down or stand it up? If it was layed down then you should of waited at least 24 hours before plugging it up again to give the oil in the compressor time to settle back down. Actually either way it was transported it still needed the 24 hour rest time. So if you automatically plugged it in after transportation you could have messed up the compressor. Let it set unplugged for 2 days then plug it in and see what happens. If loud noise persists then you know the compressor is shot. Goog Luck.

SOURCE: kitchen aid top shelf warm

  1. check gasket
  2. check the light switch on top of the refrig. section. If then pushed the switch turns the light off, but the light is still on with the fridge door closed - door needs adjustment.

You are going to have to remove the spray bars and the filter at the top of the pump housing to see if something is stuck in the pump

Kitchenaid refrigerator / freezer knocking noise

Hmmm. Makes sure it is not the fan inside the freezer. The compressor is not capable of loud noise since it is sealed and sits on rubber mount. The knocking might be due to the fan blade hitting ice build up. You should not see any frost in a freezer. If there is frost, you can defrost completely then set the fridge to a lower setting.

Kitchen aid refigerator: door won't seal then lost power.

The GFI had becme stuck - yes we had plugged the fridge into the GFI which is apparently a bad thing to do. Replaced the GFI (and moved in away from the fridge) and all is well.

A three loud consecutive popping sounds at various

You probably have a bad compressor. It's internal parts are held up with 4 springs and one of them has probably broken and causes the compressor piston to hit the side of the comp. housing. This will happen when the ref. shuts off. To be sure, if you turn the ref off at the controls then you should hear the noise in the back. If it is less than 5 years old you can get it replaced under warranty. if more than 5 years old it will just be noisy. it will most likely last several more years like it is. Let me know if I'm right.
