My 1st Gen Ipod Touch screen won't turn on

When you hit the home or sleep button nothing happens. When you plug it into the computer, you can hear it working but the screen stays blank. I was going to restore it to see if that helped, but the computer is saying it can't sync to my IPod because it is password protected. I can't enter the password because the screen stays blank. By the way, this just happened out of the blue and no damage occurred. My husband used it in the afternoon and it wouldn't work later that night. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help you can give.

If you're ready to lose all the data on your ipod to try restoring it here's how...

  1. Power off the device (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPod touch to turn off.
  2. Press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to iPod. When you reconnect the USB to iPod, the device should then power on.
  3. Continue holding the Home button while iPod starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo.
  4. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message:
  5. Restore and it'll download ~240mb firmware and you're done

FORGOT PASSWORD CAN NOT UNLOCK

Do this:

RESTORING IPOD TOUCH:
Try plugging it into your computer. Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons
at the same time until the screen goes black (can take longer than 10 seconds) then
let go of the sleep button (the button on the top of the unit) while keeping the
home button held in (the button on the front of the iPod). Keep the home button
held in until your computer recognizes new hardware. You should hear some sort of
sound coming from your computer speakers. That and the "installing new hardware"
notice should come up in your taskbar (this is where you computer shows the clock).
Let go of the home button once this happens. Open up iTunes and then restore it.
Keep in mind, that by restoring it, you will lose all data!!!!!

To reset iPod touch, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If this does not resolve your issue please do let me know. :-)

Ipod touch 1st Gen turns off during restore. (Need Help!) Please?

You might want to try holding the top button and the home button until it turns on, then let go of the top button. Keep the home button held down until the "Plug Into iTunes" picture comes up. You should be able to normal restore now. If this doesn't work, just go get it repaired.

First gen i pod touch, white blank screen

  1. Back up your iPod Touch's data to your computer before the restore to prevent losing data. You'll need to reinstall it after the restore process.
  2. Connect to the internet and install the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website.
  3. Make sure your iPod Touch is connected to your computer.
  4. Pick "iPod Touch" in the Source pane of the iTunes program.
  5. Click on the Summary tab.
  6. Choose "Check for Update."
  7. Select "Restore" and follow the instructions to finish restoring your iPod Touch.
  8. Complete an Advanced Restore
  9. If following the steps in the previous section did not work, follow these steps to perform an advanced restore. Turn off the power on the iPod Touch.
  10. Plug the iPod Touch into your computer.
  11. Power on the iPod Touch.
  12. Press the "Home" and "Sleep/Wake" buttons together for 5 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  13. Release the "Sleep/Wake" button but continue holding down the "Home" button. The iPod Touch should reboot, and iTunes will notice the iPod Touch in recovery mode.
  14. Return to the above section and follow those steps to restore your iPod Touch.
