I have a sony vaio vgn-a290 laptop and im trying to reset the bios password. Ive found the dipswitch on the mother board but dont know witch one resets the bios password. could anyone help me

Sony Vaio PCG and some Vaio VGN Series use the last 7 digits of the laptop serial number to calculate the bios master password. The serial number for a Sony Vaio is often located on the bottom of the laptop on a white sticker. The serial number may also be found by removing the battery and checking in the battery compartment. In case of your Sony Vaio laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

you can try this either buy a password removal program which personally i dont think would work on the BIOS the only other solution is to locate the COSMOS battery un pug it for 24 hrs that should work remove the panels on the back of the pc after disconecting it from the mains aswell as the battery you will be looking for a round pice of plastic with a red and black wire and a white conector simply pull it out to disconect it doing this will reset the BIOS completely as new .

You could try removing the cmos battery for a few minutes and letting it reset your bios. Not sure if you feel comfortable enough messing arounnd on the motherboard though.

I have set the password for administrator when i entered the bios set up. you can change its setting but not the configuration unless you've entered the password. you can't change the password with a new one if you cant enter the old password. Next time dont forget your password because laptops has its security even when stolen you cant open its bios set up if its protected by password. CMOS battery is in the mother board. You need a service technician to open your laptop to reset the bios setup battery.
