The manual for your motherboard can be downloaded here:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=3812&type=manual

On page 2-17, the pin-outs for those connectors are specified in detail. They are part of the JFP2 header:
PIN SIGNAL DESCRIPTION
1 HD_LED_P Hard disk LED pull-up
2 FP PWR/SLP MSG LED pull-up
3 HD_LED_N Hard disk active LED
4 FP PWR/SLP MSG LED pull-up
5 RST_SW_N Reset Switch low reference pull-down to GND
6 PWR_SW_P Power Switch high reference pull-up
7 RST_SW_P Reset Switch high reference pull-up
8 PWR_SW_N Power Switch low reference pull-down to GND
9 RSVD_DNU Reserved. Do not use.

You need to plug these into JFP2. The power led plugs into pins 2 and 4. The hard drive led plugs into 1 and 3. The power switch plugs into 6 and 8. This connector format places the even number pins in one row and the odd in the other. The leds have to be plugged in the right direction to work. If the power led does not come on when the pc is turned on rotate the plug 180 degrees and it should work, rotate the connector for the hard drive led so it matches the power led. It will not hurt anything if you plug these in backwards at first they just will not light.

Front panel connections

I don't find the Front Panel header pinout online, nor do I have an MSI MS-5191 in the shop.

I would suggest using one the LED lights with two wires.
(3-wire is a dual color LED)

There are two rows of pins. Usually the Power On switch, Power On LED, and Speaker; are on the same row.
HarDDrive activity LED, and Reset Switch are on the opposite row.

Speaker has 4-pins designated for it. All the others use 2-pins.
(Unless the PWR ON LED is a dual color jobbie)

Touch two pins next to each other, in the same row; with the 2-wire LED.
Start with finding the Power On switch first.

Usually the top row 1st two pins are Power On LED (Light)
Next in line are the 2 pins for the Power On switch.
Bottom row 1st two pins are usually HarDDrive activity LED (light)
Next 2-pins are usually Reset switch.

May not apply to a motherboard old enough to use a Socket 7 processor socket.
There may be 18 to 20-pins.
Bear in mind that many are not used, and probably 4 are for an internal speaker, for hearing BIOS Beep Codes.
May be two separate Front Panel headers.

Once you find the two contact pins in the Front Panel header, for the Power On switch; I would put the Power On switch wires on.
The small pin connector on the wire/s, will keep you from accidentally touching these two pins again, when the computer is on.

Now you have the two pins for the Power On switch, and the computer is running; then keep touching 2-pins at a time with the LED. (Light Emitting Diode)

LED stays on? You have the Power On LED (Light) pins.
LED blinks? HarDDrive activity LED (light) pins.
Computer restarts? Reset switch pins.

Look for abbreviations near the pins in the Front panel header.

PWR, Pwr, Pwr On, Sw, and SW; are just some of the abbreviations for the Power On switch.

HDD LED, and HDD are two for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light)
(If it states HDD SW it is the Power On switch. Weird old way of marking)

RST, Reset, and RSW, are for the Reset Switch.
(Reset Button)

If you see 4 pins marked with a bracket ( [ -> Turn so it's horizontal), these are for the internal speaker.

Type MSI front panel connector in your search bar, and look at -> images. See if you can find an image of your MSI Front Panel header pinout.

You can bet MSI carried out that Front Panel header pinout, on other MSI motherboards, besides the MS-5191.

The MSI MS-5191 may have been a motherboard made by MSI, especially for a pre-built computer manufacturer, and not listed on their website as an OEM motherboard.
(Original Equipment Manufacturer)

Won't have the Front Panel header pinout, listed on MSI's support website. (Doesn't)
But you can bet there IS an OEM motherboard made by MSI, that the Front Panel header DOES match.

May be different expansion slots, or motherboard chipset, or whatever; but the same Front Panel header pinout.

Where can i get pyramid-9 PCB No BA41-00167A manual book for setting up power switch, hdd led, reset etc connection setting ???????????

Hello, i was made a search in google, i guess you must look it too, and a don't get nothing, but, I think i've a solution for you, according my own experience, i've installed 2 kinds of different MB, and, althoug there are different brands, the connection pins are the same, ie, the front panel connector that connect HDD Led, Power Led, Reset and Power, is a 9 pin conectors (really have 10, but 1 pin is cut for reference) and commonly is called PANEL 1

Then, i guide you

2 8
. . . . this will be 2,4,6 and 8 pins (from left to right)
. . . . . this will be 1,3,5,7 and 9 pins
1 9

Power Led + in pin 2
Power Led - in pin 4
Power Button # or + in pin 6 (It's no critic the orientation, it have no polarity, is a push buttom)
Power Button GND or - in pin 8

HDD Led + in pin 1
HDD Led - in pin 3
GND from Reset Buttom in pin 5
# from Reset Buttom in pin 7

THE PIN 9 has no connection

T6410 EMACHINE TRYING TO CONNECT START BUTTON

The motherboard in your computer is an MSI MS-7145, which is also called RS480M. You can download a copy of the manual here. The front panel connections are on page 2-20.

Looking at the header JFP1, pins 1 through 9 (odd numbers) are the front row, pins 2 through 10 are the back. Pin 10 is the missing pin. The power switch connects to pins 6 and 8. The power LED connects to pins 2 and 4. The HDD LED connects to pins 1 and 3. The reset button, if used, connects to pins 5 and 7.

I need to know the sequence on how to connect my Power LED, Reset Switch, HDD LED, and M/B Switch up correctly. I have an MS-7142 VER:1 Can you help me?

Hi carlmtclem, your not alone when it comes to hooking up the right led connector to the MSI MB. Firstly, you need to know what wire color is positive & which is negative. Most commonly the color white is ground/negative. Wire colors do vary from case to case. So look at your case led wires. Which ever color is common for each 2-pin connector, is negative. (Except the speaker wire).
All other colors are positive.
(The speaker wire color for negative is usually black & red is positive).
Your MSI board has two separate sets of pins.
JFP2 is used for the speaker only. Do not connect the power led there.

4214cb1.jpg
Pin one for JFP1 is shown in the manual. Pin 1 is positive & pin 3 is negitive for the HDD-LED, ECT.

Thats it.

Post here.
Good luck carlmtclem!
Thank you for using fixya.

Lost in the wiring :(

Hi bossman9628A, normally its the wire colors that messes everyone up when trying to connect the front case wires to the motherboard. The MSI RX480 Neo2-F, AKA MS-7151 MB is no different but does use a second set of pins just to help you get more confused.
Gather up all your case wires. You'll notice there is one color that is common. Chances are that color is white & is being used for the ground wire. Other colors like blue, green, red, light blue, light green & light red ECT are used for positive. The speaker uses black for ground/negative.
So looking at JFP1 at pin 1 is positive +. Pin 3, which is to the right of pin 1 is negative -.
The manual does show you which pin is negative & which is positive. Pin 1 = (HD_LED_P). The _P stands for positive.
Pin 3 = (HD_LED_N). The _N stands for negative. Do not connect the Power led at JFP2. Keep the power led connected at JFP1.
Do connect the case speaker at JFP2. Most cases do use 2-pin connectors but others use 3 & 4 pin connectors. If your case is such you can remove a wire from a connector by using a decent needle. There is a small black tab that you can pull towards your self while pulling the wire out. You can than slide the wire back into the connector where you need it. You'll know the wire is inserted correctly because you'll hear or feel it snap into the connector. If by sme chance you get a led backwards, don't freak out. The leds use 5v DC. Just shut down the system & turn that led 180deg & reconnect it.

Good luck bossman9628A!
