GE SPACEMAKER MICROWAVE OVEN

Oven makes thumping sound when in operation

  • Anonymous Dec 14, 2007

When the unit is turned on there is a repetitive tapping sound like a fan blade hitting something. It is monotone but loud enought to be annoying. Any suggestions?

Is it a rhythmic thumping, or intermittent, or one thump when it first starts?

If it's rhythmic, it may be a failing turntable motor or stirrer.

If it's a thump just when you hit Start or when the magnetron turns on at the beginning of the cook cycle, it may just be a common noise that they sometimes make due to the magnetic field produced by the high voltage transformer.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

My microwave doesn't have a turn table, but it does make a thumping noise starting this last week or so. It's quite old (maybe 20-25 years). Sounds like the motor is thumping and stuff in the microwave seems to be cooking differently, too.

Pledase check the operation of the door safety interlock system. If you routinely open the door while the oven is operating, these small switches will eventually burn out and not work.

GE Spacemaker microwave oven - Sensor error

Hello :

Many models of the GE microwave have sensors that can detect humidity from the foods you are cooking. This allows the microwave to make adjustments to the power levels used to cook your food. If "Sensor Error" appears, you should either press "Clear" to cancel the mode or leave the food in the appliance longer to give the microwave more time to detect the food.

Press "Time Cook" to manually enter the time if you receive an error message when trying to use the "Sensor Reheat" mode of your GE microwave. The error message may be caused by the food item being too large or too small to detect

good luck .

Microwave making dull thumping noise when NOT in use

I called a technician out today. Seems like the problem is the circuit board. It wasn't working properly and the sound is the fan. The fan is supposed to turn on when the microwave is in use and off when it is not. In this case, the fan continued even when the microwave was not in operation. A new circuit board has been ordered and will replace the old one when it arrives. For now, I can still use the microwave, but I have to unplug it everytime I finish heating something up. A little inconvenient, but at least it'll still heat my food up in the meantime.

Constant rattling noise during operation

possibly the "stirrer" motor - this is in the top and turns a metal reflecting ring to disperse the microwaves around the oven more evenly. About $70 on GE site for my oven.
