American Standard 4112.016 Cadet Toilet Tank w/Coupling Components & Tank T Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 31, 2009

I have a 4112.016 American Standard Toilet and even with the floater all the way down the chain the water seems to keep running and going into the bowl.

Thanks for the PDF I am printing it out for reference. I think the yellow plastic thing in my toilet (being 10 years old) may need replacing and the other fluidmaster parts I have seen look nothing like what's in there now. Hopefully with newer parts it will work. I appreciate your help! Wish I could send you a picture of it!

1.The Flapper Valve isn't seating all the way, and allowing water to seep through. (At end of chain)
2.The Fluidmaster water control unit that is connected to the other end of the chain, isn't shutting off when the lever for it, is all the way in the down position.

Test the FluidMaster unit, by lightly applying pressure in a down motion, to that lever.
(Facing the toilet from the front, the FluidMaster water control unit is in the left corner of the tank. {Not trying to insult your intelligence}
The lever I speak of, is the small arm at the top of the FluidMaster. The Flapper Valve chain connects to this lever)

If it shuts off, you may have some fine sand, or other foreign material in the FluidMaster. [Taking one apart, and checking, then reassembling, is No fun!]

If it doesn't shut off when you apply pressure to that lever, you may have a bad diaphragm in the FluidMaster.
Suggest you replace this unit.

Testimonial: "Thanks. My "fluidmaster"is a plastic yellow jug looking thing with a screw cap on top. Toilet is about 10 years and haven't found anything like ityet."

Also wanted to include this PDF file, showing the parts in your American 4112.016 toilet, to help explain the parts I'm referring to,

You can buy a replacement seal for the filler for about 85¢. Just turn off the water and turn the top counter clockwise about 30°.

The tank ball (Flapper) is replaceable for about $5. They just slide down, over the refill tube.

Fix an american standard slow close toilet seat

Check the chain the goes between the handle and the flapper.
It should not be taught. If it is it will not permit the flapper to seat
properly and water will leak out. Adjust the chain length so the flapper is seated and there is just a little slack in the chain.

Toilet keeps running even when manually lifting floater to max

check handle to ensure no tension is on the flapper chain when not being flushed. check flapper to ensure positive seal to flush valve. check water level to ensure not overflowing into flow valve. if that's the case, lower water height.

then if still doesn't work, change flapper,

all else fails, change flush valve.
good luck,
steve

American Standard Hamilton Toilet Leaking

You have installed the parts improperly. You must have 3/8 of an inch slack in the chain from the flapper to the handle when flapper is closed.

Toilet Bowl Water Level Slowly Drops

Check the fill tube in your toilet one easy way to see if it's leaking is get food coloring and pour in your tank to color the water this makes it easier to see and squeeze the tube in the tank when it's full if you see the colored water running down the middle of it you have a winner! if not you can look around for it sometimes the plastic under the flapper gets cracked too

The toilet sometimes will continue to run after flushing

the chain should have some slack to it being too tight it dose let the flapper sit properly so itll keep running because water is escaping
