Freezing, pointer wont move and wont turn off. must remove battery to turn off laptop. It will run fine in safe mode, but cant find out why its crashing because it wont run for long enough

its a common windows problem. there is a multitude of options to solve this. try start windows in safe mode and start a program. if that works go a restore point back. or reinstall windows. or get a newer version of windows. windows 7 or 8 are likely to perform better than windows xp - assuming it is windows xp you run. avoid vista like the plague

Restore the PC in Safe mode

try running from control panel and try going on the internet without add-ons

Your laptop may need defragmenting. It is possible for everything to lock up if the hard drive is too badly fragmented.

Try starting up in safe mode. Press F8 shortly after switching on then select start in safe mode.

The defragmenter is in the START MENU / PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / SYSTEM TOOLS.

Select defragment.

It may take a few minutes to a few hours.

It is necessary to regularly defragment (two or three times a week), many people aren't aware that the operating system will definately slow down or crash if you dont.

In case you don't know how to go in safe mode:

Turn on the computer and after the boot screen press the F8 key.
Windows will ask which mode you like to go:

First try safe mode.

You can also try:
Last know good configuration
VGA mode.

you need to run you computer in safe mode to see if you have a driver problem. if everything works fine in safe mode try removing any pointer software then reboot so it can correct itself

You need not remove the batteries to turn off the system if its stuck. Just press and hold the power button for few min and the system will shut down.

It seems that its not a dreamweaver issue. The processor is heating because of some other reason.
check doing the same in the windows advance options i.e safe mode

When you start the computer start pressing the F8 key and select the windows advance option - Safe mode with networking

Check running the dreamweaver in the safe mode. If its running fine. There is a problem with the system.
