You can find a replacement online. If you're in the US try www.frys.com. The usually have dvd/dvdrw drives on sale for about $30. You might like the lightscribe option. This will allow you to etch labels on lightscribe CD/DVD's.

I have a acer aspire 4930 laptop. It have a component optiarc dvd rw ad 7560s which is not working. It is unable to read any cd or dvd except only one cd which have collection of few small softwares....
Two ways:
* buy an external CD/DVD reader/writer (with a USB interface),
and ignore the broken "internal" drive;
* take the computer to a qualified technician, to disassemble the laptop, install a replacement "internal" unit, and reassemble.

DVD RW but not reading DVDs and reads CD
Hi,
The problem unfortunately will be with the dvd writer dvd laser not functioning or dirty try cleanng the laser with some glass cleaner or cd cleaning packs if the same the dvd drive is faulty and needs replacing

I do have the same problem, my laptop doesnt detects the DVD writer, checked with the acer support, asked me to check the motherboard and may need to change that.

I have an ACER 3610 laptop with a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4244N drive. I can read cd's, dvd's, write to cd's, but can't write to DVD's. Is this device have DVD burning capabilities? Thanks.
That particular drive that you have is a cd writer. It can only read DVD's not write them.

How to find a cd/dvd writer for acer aspire 4720z model
It can be expensive to replace an internal CD/DVD drive. You might be better off buying an external drive. They're a lot cheaper but yes annoying to have to carry around. If you're still keen on getting a replacement internal drive speak to your local computer technicnan and ask for a quote.
