SOURCE: Husqvarna yth2448 pto switch kills motor/battery will not charge

you may hav a bad alt. problem with the mower dying when you engage the pto is most likley a bad sensor or wire unplugged on the seat sensor.the way it works is if the blades are turning and it dosent sense you being on the seat the mower shuts down.this has been standard on mowers for quite a few years now. it keeps the blades from cutting you up if you fall off the seat while mowing. as for charging i would try cleaning the battery connections and get the battery checked first.

SOURCE: Craftsman 26hp Garden Tractor PTO not working

If you changed the belt make sure it did not interfere with the wire that runs from the pto clutch, sometimes that belt can rub on the wire and wear through it,also if you had the clutch off make sure you aligned the steel retainer bolt that sets in the alignment hole on the pto clutch, this keeps the clutch from spring when disengaged if you don't get that pin through the hole in clutch it can push on the clutch and bind it.Also it may be possible to plug that pto switch in backwards. Also if you jumped the fuse out it may now have burnt the switch or wiring somewhere.

SOURCE: PTO problem on a model

Hi,
I would be looking at the ignition switch....but before replacing it I would be looking for a friend with an electrical meter and checking the wiring for power coming out of the switch to the cluthch, this way you can narrow it down positively before buying parts.

SOURCE: My PTO will not engage

Check the operator presence switch located under the drivers seat. If that isn't mounted properly it will not activate like it should and will cause the mower to die when you try to engage the PTO or release the brake with it in gear.

Cub cadet blowing fuses when engaging the PTO. LT1554 starts and runs until engaging the blades.

If it is blowing fuses my experience is you have a short in a switch or wires. When you put in the pto it blows the fuse. That would lead me to think the electrical short has something to do with the PTO safety switch, wire or circuit..
I am posting this link it is not your tractor but it demonstrates the safety switches on lawn tractor and shows his pto safety switch.
Your issue should be in the pto safety switch or wiring circuit.

Might be something like cut or wire with insulation stripped back touching a ground. Switch could be shorted.

On a Husqvarna 2005 ELS 2448 riding mower, PTO switch burns up, and wont blow the fuse first? Why?

I used to see this on the Kawaski engine machines with an electric clutch, they put a diode between the two clutch wires so as so as to stop any electrical feed back throught the clutch, when the machine is running without the clutch engaged it can turn into a generator.

something is loose, pto switch connectors maybe loose or corroded, wires at the pto, bolts on the pto there should be three of them. hope this helps Tim

Blows fuse for blade clutch after 20 to 30 secounds ...

Most likely there is an internal short in the PTO clutch, but it could also be in the wiring, which is way cheaper to fix! So, with the engine off, get down on the ground, find the PTO clutch (it's between the two pulleys under the motor) and trace the wires that go to it. Look for a worn spot in the insulation anywhere, especially likely where the wires pass through the chassis or if they've touched a belt or other moving part. If you find a wiring problem, just splice in a new wire.
Ok, if you found nothing, then unplug the connector that connects the wires from the PTO. Start the engine, drive around, engage the PTO switch (of course, the blades won't spin). If the PTO fuse does not blow, you've proven the problem is in the PTO clutch and you must replace it ($150 or so, sorry!). If the fuse does blow, that's good news, you just have a short in the wiring or in the PTO switch itself. Disconnect the wires from the switch to differentiate those two possibilities. The PTO switch isn't too expensive either. Good luck! Please rate my solution if helpful.

Cub Cadet 1861 amp light comes on when the PTO is engaged and after mowing for a short time the PTO disengages and now the 30 amp fuse blows and stops the engine

Sounds like you have a short circuit, either in the PTO clutch, or in the wiring that goes to it. Inspect the wiring for any obvious spots where insulation has rubbed off or burned. Also look at the wiring at the back of the PTO engagement switch for these signs. Before buying an expensive PTO clutch, unplug its connector. Drive around with the PTO switch on (even though the PTO won't activate and the blades won't be engaged). If the fuse doesn't blow, the problem must be within the PTO clutch. If the fuse still blows, it must be in the PTO switch or the wiring from there to the clutch. Use an ohmmeter to trace and find the short. Good luck!
