I need to repair the enamel in the base of my oven. It has been removed in somne areas.

Hello dfleck - Unfortunately once the enamel is burnt or damaged, it cannot be repair and will need replacing. At this point, I would personally recommend consulting with a service technician to proceed further.

This has happened to our smeg oven too, ours looks like scratches but we have never cooked anything on the base, always used the shelving/trays provided. Smeg have blamed us for the damage. Utterly disgusting. Will never buy smeg again.

It's enamel, not paint, so oven cleaner would be okay.This works, too: soaking a rag in ammonia and letting it sit there for a while to soften the goo. Then can use the plastic scrubby things, but the green ones or the Brillo pads will scratch the enamel. Rag and elbow grease also okay. Keep at it; it will polish off eventually.

I have searched diligently and cannot find what the interior of the oven is made of. I suggest you open the owner's manual and find contact information for the manufacture. Call or email them for an answer.

You can buy enamel paint , depends where the rust is, you can buy heat proof paint if it is inside the oven.
If it is outside then treat it with a rust inhibitng paint first.

First off i must say that in your owners manuel it clearly states to not use any cleaning products inside the oven..

Second if the cleaner is now completely cleaned off then when put into the bake cycle it could possibly turn the cleaner into a toxic gas. I would not use the oven i would replace it.

Third having the enamel chip off is not a safety concern. it is merely cosmetic. however refer back to number 2.

The door itself is vitrous enamel, although I have not found it a problem if some gets on to it.
What you must ensure is that you do not put any on the element liners or covers on the sides. of the oven, otherwise it stains them.

Don't get it on any paint work either.

the interior of the oven cavity is chipping??? if so not a worry or concern for saftey or health concerns stictly cosemetic

A toxicity doctor rang me to say that I have been exposed to vitreous enamel and galvanised metal.
The composition has zinc, chromium, silica so when the gas came off the oven interior, I had "gas fever, short term toxic, that would be eliminated from my body with no expected problems. Apparently welders have this all the time. It causes irritability, nausia and sleepiness. Australia has very poor metal detection in blood testing. It usually has to be sent to America.
I don't trust Eurolec, nor the company who made their baked enamel ovens - Technogas Italy, who now produce for Euro appliances.
I'm getting a new stove - ILEVE - which is a better quality gas stove all round.

The only solution I know of for the enamel coming off on these units is replacement of the unit, and since it is 4 years old you are going to have a tough time getting dacor to replace it or even give you a credit towards a new one. I have never actually seen the problem on a Dacor. Does the unit have a hidden lower bake element? If you cannot seee the elemnt its hidden, and you cannot put tin foil on the floor of any unit wiht a hidden bake element, as it will damage the finish. I know this isnt much help, but I work on Dacor products regularly as we are an authorized servicer, and I can't say I've ever seen a finish problem on one. Best bet at this point is to call Dacor and see if they will do anything about it. Good Luck!
