Radio shack phone c-4210

The DTMF [Dual Tone Multi Frequency] tone dialing system operates on Direct Current [DC] and is DEPENDENT ON the PROPER POLARITY of the two phone conductor wires!!!!

IF the polarity is reversed, ONLY the PULSE DIALING WILL WORK!!!!!

USUALLY the Tip and Ring wires are colored Red and Green [I think -- it's been a lotta years!!!!!].

HOWEVER, color really doesn't matter as USUALLY ONLY TWO WIRES ARE CONNECTED TO THE PHONE SO REGARDLESS OF COLOR, JUST REVERSE those two wires.

Try reversing the two wires, and then switch the phone to tone dial and try it. That MAY solve the problem!

If that doesn't solve the problem then it's beyond me!!!!!

The magic switch is in the SYSTEM. By default Panasonic systems are Tone dialing. You can change it or if you press # it turns off tone to pulse conversion.

On that model you need to press and hold the FLASH button, after it beeps it will be in tone mode and not pulse.

Read the manual to reconfigure that option. (Look for Setup button on the phone) I can't guess what model you have. On older phones one could find a switch on the the phone to flip between Tone and Pulse.

For the GE electric 2.4 GHZ phone where there is no switch, you have to press the program button and hold until it beeps (talk button will start flashing), then press the tone (star) button and program again. It will beep for confirmation

hold the select button down a few seconds until you'll see a 'tn' on the readout. this sets it to tone. hold it down again and it will set back to 'Pu' for pulse. i figured this out by accident. the losers at vtech never answered my question.

If memory serves, to program the touch tone, lift the handset, press [PROGRAM] # # # 3 then hang up.

These units just have a small switch on the side of the handset with two positions for pulse or tone, just to the left of the earpiece Here is the link to the instruction manual for your phone; http://www.swbfreedomphone.com/ib/ibcord/fc2548.pdf Check page 2 of the pdf file if you are struggling to find the switch. Press STORE/IN 4. Press TONE To program TONE/PULSE for each line individually: 1. Press STORE/IN 2. Press 0 for PULSE or Press 1 for TONE 3. Press STORE/IN 4. Press LOWER 5. Press line number (1, 2, or 3)
