Hi There Ive Got A lenovo l-nc51m motherboard running on windows 7. It Shows Audio is installed but when i click on the volume icon it says no audio output device installe . could this be hardware related or software. please help

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

It could be either of the problem. To check out First go to add remove programs and uninstall all your sound and modem drivers. Now install HDMI Driver ( High definition bus driver and than install your sound driver from the CD, also install the modem drivers. The thing is before installing modem and sound driver HDMI needs to be installed. Chk the device manager if there are any bangs ie a yellow question mark or an exclamation. If there is than you have not installed the correct driver even after installing all the drivers than you need to contact your vendor for replacement of motherboard as sound would be onboard. Also you can chk in the bios if the onboard sound is on or not, at times what happens is that onboard sound is off in the Bios. Also if you are using a PCI or a PCI-E sound card than make sure you have turned off the onboard sound and also you need to reseat the card.

This is a hardware driver problem.
The final version of Windows 7 has not been released yet, you most likely have the RC copy of Windows 7 (ie Release Candidate - final beta version just before official release) the RC is available to anyone to download and test.
The problem is that not all device drivers are avaiable and if you cannot get a Windows 7 version audio driver from the manufacturer's WEB site at this stage, you have to wait until it is available.

I have the lenovo s12 and whenever i try to click on the volume keys, i get an icon that pops up and says: warning!, your audio device is not working properly! i dont know exactly what to do. i read online...

Hi Mister_x158,

Yes, you do need to reinstall your audio driver and here's how to get the driver and install it:

1. Go to www.consumersupport.lenovo.com
Note: If it's your first time, it will ask for your country or region. Please select the country/region where you are located.

2. You can either do Option 1: Enter a serial number. You can find your serial number at the bottom on a Lenovo sticker and it will say S/N which usually starts with EB followed by 8 digit number

3. Or Option 2: Select a product. For Brand, select Notebooks. For Family, select Ideapad S12. For Type, just select All types.

4. Click Search and you will have the list of drivers for your system. Scroll it down to Audio and select the proper one.

5. To know which one is the correct driver, look at the applicable OS. For example, your OS is windows xp then select the 5th driver on the list.

6. Click on the driver and it will bring you to the next page.

7. Look for the Download Here and click on the exe file

avf110686_2.gif

8. You will get a pop-up for License Agreement so click on I Agree

avf110686_3.gif

9. Then it will give another pop-up to either run or save the file.

10. Continue on installation, click Yes to all top overwrite existing file.

11. Restart the computer once finished.

Note If your audio still does not work or if volume buttons still gives a warning. You may call Lenovo Warranty Support at 1-877-453-6686.

Thank you for using Fixya,
