Did you reset the hours on the lamp with the menu options on your set? Sometimes, if you do not do that it can mess with the tv performance thinking that its over hours. It needs to be reset to 0 again...

if the picture is still visible but lacking color, it is not the lamp. check the color wheel and make sure it is working. replacing the color wheel is a pretty easy task and can be performed by yourself without many problems. as a sidenote, older samsung dlp tvs seem to experience this problem quite often, although they usually sound like someone strangling a cat before the bearings go out..
partstore.com should carry your replacement for 100 USD or so, the part number is BP96-00250A.
before replacing it, make sure your old one isn't just stuck or not spinning at full rpm, if this is the case, you can usually remove it and clean the motor using electronic or contact cleaner that is safe for plastics.
to check everything out, you will need to remove the back panel of your tv, then power it up (keep kids, small animals, hands and such away from the back while powered up), take a look in front of the projection lamp and see if the wheel is turning. if not, a very good writeup is available here, this is the writeup i send my own customers to if they feel like attempting the repair themselves.
replacing the color wheel is actually not very hard at all, if you have ever worked on your own desktop pc (installed a new drive or upgraded it yourself) then you should be able to do this with limited difficulty.
hope this helps,
trin

Thanks for your solution. This is a problem with color wheel. I could not fix it by myself, so my friend will try to fix it next week.

SOURCE: Black screen with a Blinking lamp in the front
Hi my name is Vince and I have a samsung dlp (model hl-r5667 w). Its about 4 years old and i have no warranty for the tv. Recently my lamp went bad so i purchased a new lamp and installed it myself and about 45 minutes later a there was loud pop and the screen wet black and the sound went out as well. Also the tv started making a loud humming noise. I had a tv repair guy come look at the tv and from the second he walked in the door he was on his phone arguing with some one for ten minutes and seem like he did want to work. Well he finally got after the call and told me that the light engine needs to be replaced. Do you think I should get a second opinion or does that sound about right? The only reason I ask is because he did seem like he wanted to work on the tv and had something else going that was more important. Thanks
