The 5000 is designed to evaporate all condensation produced. When on extremely hot and humid days if machine produces excess moisture it is normal for machine to drip from back. No, do not drill a hole. Your unit is ok.

SOURCE: there is no drain hole for water to drip outside.

These are designed to retain some water in the pan. This is for the slinger fan to throw water through the condensing coil. This helps the refrigerant cool and is important to the efficiency of the unit. I would certainly not recommend drilling a hole in the bottom. The hole may cause the water to roll somewhere where damage could occur. Try instead tipping the unit Backwards before bringing it in the house.

SOURCE: Does Whirlpool air conditioner #

theres one near the back side on the outside part, they get plugged with bugs, leaves, debris, etc.,when its shut off look underneath and there is a drain hole on the bottom or on the rear ledge on either corner or both rear outside corners, make sure the unit has a slope toward the outside so most of the water drains there too,you can use a short piece of wire to clear these drain holes,if they are dirty enough you may need to unplug the unit and use a garden hose to dilute the debris so it flows out the drain holes

SOURCE: why isn't there drain holes in bottom of

It shouldn't be a problem if you drilled the hole near the rear, outer edge of the drip pan and didn't accidentally pierce any of the mechanical above it. Also, be sure the rear of the unit is tilted down at least 1/4" to 1/2", so water will flow to it. Check the drain hole periodically, as they will become clogged over time.

I have a small 5000 btu window unit air conditioner made by arctic king does not have a hole for the excess water to drain.

I've repaired a lot of window units because someone has drilled a hole in the pan, to drain water, and hit the coil. Please do not drill any holes in anything! These units utilize condensate water to help reject the heat in the outdoor coil. If water is reaching the outdoor fan, it either does not have the proper "lean" or slope, or it's designed to allow water to reach the fan, and not much you can do. If it is designed to allow water to cool the outdoor coil, and you were to drain that water so that no condensate water cools the outdoor coil, this will allow the unit to operate with an excessive outdoor coil temp, and shorten the life of the compressor, or cause the unit to operate poorly/warm supply air temp. Try to give it just a little more "lean". Hope this helps!

We have a Danby RO/BCGE 5000 btu there is no drainage ??? Do I drill one Thank you Doug P

Doug, you can, if you are extremely careful not to penetrate so far, as to damage the compressor and cooling fins above. Use a 1/4" bit in a cordless drill. The house should be about 1/2" from the rear of the drip pan. Be sure the unit is OFF and unplugged before attempting this.

TIP: Start with a smaller bit and work up to the 1/4" one. That way, the bit will have less tendency to walk from where the hole should be.

Hope this helped you & thanks for choosing FixYa.

What can you do to stop the 5000 BTU window air conditioner from leaking water into the house, when it should be emptying outside?

Two things can cause ths problem.

1. The back of the unit needs to be tilted down 1/4" to 1/2". This allows the water in the drain pan to flow to the rear of the unit, where the drain hole is.

2. The drain hole or tube in the drain pan, near the rear of the unit is clogged. Looking for it can be a challenge, because sometimes the clog blends in with the hole. Be persistent in looking for it. You can use a pipe cleaner or an appropriately sized Zip Tie to clear the clog.

Hope this helps you solve the problem.

a plastic pan under the unit with some small hose can divert the water elsewhere. use silicone calk to seal the hose in the hole you drilled in the bottom of the pan NEVER DRILL THE PAN OF THE AC UNIT ! use something to catch the water.. if you drill the unit, you take the chance of hitting one if the AC lines !!! there no fix'n that

My Danby dehumidifier leaks out of the bottom. Water not draining into the tank but around the tank therefore out of the bottom between the tank and the dehumidier itself

The drain tube or hole that drains into the bucket is probably clogged.

Turn the unit OFF and remove the bucket. Look in the cavity where the bucket was removed for a drain tube or drain hole. Using an 18" long plastic Zip Tie or something similar (No wire coat hangers) , that's appropriately sized to fit in the hole. Carefully feed the ZIP Tie into the hole or tube and thread it as far as you can. At some point the drain will curve, but you have to carefully get past this point. Once the Zip Tie has reached as far as it can, slowly pull it out while rotating it. This will loosen the clog. Once you have it half way out, be prepared for water to follow. This method should solve the problem.

My left rear tail light has water in the lens

The only thing I can tell you is to drill a very small hole in the bottom of the lens so the water will drain. This will also prevent water from collecting in the lens again. But I don't think this is causing your power loss problem.

Danby ddr7009ree - continuous drain won't work

I have the same Danby unit and the same problem. When you take out the water bucket look inside and find the two holes where the water drips into the bucket. These holes are approximately 5/16" and 3/8" diameter. These holes need to be plugged. Your local hardware store has an assortment of specialized parts boxes. Find the box that contains "corks" of various sizes. They sell for about 20¢ apiece. I bought 5 within that size catagory and two of them worked! Problem solved.
