SOURCE: ryobi 18 volt batteries wont hold a charge

Ryobi batteries are specific to each Ryobi model, so please write down which model number or the original battery part number you have. How old are the batteries?
I had the same problem with many bateries I had at home, like cell-phone batteries and also some power tool bateries. Did not have any Ryobi power tools tho, so don't hold me acountable if this doesn't apply to your hardware:)
Many batteries have the "memory effect" which means that if the battery was not completely empty when it was set to recharge it might now only recharge to the level it was emptied to, so for instance if you used the power tool for 10 mins and the battery emptied to, lets say, 90% capacity, it might occure that the next time you recharge the battery it will only charge to it's 90% maximum...doing that many times lowers the maximum recharge capacity. As I heard the new Li-Ion batteries do not have this problem.
I hope this makes some sence as my english is not that good and it was a bit hard explaining my thoughts:)

SOURCE: Battery charge problems Ryobi 18v

Solution is two fold. Will try the freeze and re charge approach today and do this a few times. The long term soluiton is to purchase two Lithium batteries and a duel chemical charger. Expensive solution but seems it will work.

SOURCE: Ryobi 18V lithium battery won't charge

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. The yellow and blinking red indicate a defective cell. Since it has lithium cells and is that new any repair to it would be a waste of your time. Ryobi tools purchased in 2008 have a 2 year warranty. I am guessing you probably got it at a home depot and you should return it under the warranty. All new Ryobi tools have a three year warranty. Good Luck! and Thanks for using fixya!

Throttle issues with Ryobi battery trimmer

There could be a few potential causes for this issue with your Ryobi battery-operated trimmer:
  1. Battery issue: If the battery is low on charge or not able to provide enough power to the trimmer, it may shut down when operating at full throttle. Try charging the battery fully and see if the issue persists. If the battery is old or damaged, it may need to be replaced.
  2. Overheating: If the trimmer motor or battery overheats, it may shut down to prevent damage. Try using the trimmer for shorter periods of time and allowing it to cool down between uses.
  3. Trimmer head or cutting line issue: If the trimmer head or cutting line is damaged or worn, it may cause the motor to work harder than normal, leading to overheating and shutdown. Check the trimmer head and cutting line for damage and replace as necessary.
  4. Trigger or motor issue: If the trigger or motor is faulty, it may cause the trimmer to shut down when operating at full throttle. Contact Ryobi customer support or a professional repair technician for assistance in diagnosing and repairing the issue.
Overall, it's best to start with the simplest potential causes first (such as the battery charge level or trimmer head condition) before moving on to more complex issues like faulty triggers or motors.

Hi, I have a new ryobi touch start weedeater. I have used it twice. I charged it overnight for first use. It worked fine. After 2nd use ran out of charge so I re charged it . It doesn't seem

If it doesn't seem to be recharging or taking a full charge, check the charging jack to make sure no foreign object (leaf debris, etc) got into it. If it is clean, then you probably have a warranty issue with the battery or charging system.

Note: do not leave the string trimmer out in the sun or outdoors in cold weather while it is charging. The charging process only works properly at room temperature. In particular, lithium batteries are very finicky about charging conditions. Charging overheated lithium batteries can cause a fire, so they have a safety circuit to prevent charging outside the proper temperature range.

Should I bring the battery of my Ryobi 18v grass trimmer inside for the winter?

Yes, and charge it up occasionally to keep it alive. Lithium batteries are costly and severe cold is not good for any type of battery.

My troy bilt mower will not start with ignition but i can use jumper cables to turn the starter over why cant i use my ignition

Your battery is dead. Remove the battery and take it to an autozone or similar store and have it tested [no fee]. If the battery is ok charge it up and you should be operational once again.
