www.shopyourway.com > Manage My Life > Questions How can I get my Proform 320X treadmill from stopping a few seconds after starting? ... -why-does-my-proform-treadmill-belt-only-move-a-few-seconds-stops
there are two bolts on the rear of treadmill walking deck. these are adjustment bolts. start with the belt going 3mph. tighten the side where the belt is closest.only go 1/4 turn at a time.give it 15-20 seconds for belt to track or move over. continue until centered.
1)Lube the deck belt, this a problem by lack of maintenance, this produce enough friction and shut down the machine, by protecting the electronic system. 2) Test the input voltage motor, if there are voltage, the motor need repair. 3) Test the output voltage board, for input voltage motor, if there are NOT voltage the board is faulty. God bless you
Either the walk belt is loose or the front roller pully has spun. In order to determine which one, you need to remove the moter cover and watch the drive belt and front roller while you walk, try to stop the belt and see which one stops. If the walk belt stops and the front drive roller keeps turning, then you need to put a couple of turns on the rear allen bolts. If the roller stops when the walk belt stops, see if the drive belt(small one going to the motor) stops as well. If the drive belt turns fine, but the walk belt and the front roller stop, you need to replace the front roller, because the plastic pully that is connected to the roller, is pressed on and cannot be tightened.
The motor controller weakens over time because of the excessive amperage draw of the motor do to lack of lubrication (which wears the walk belt and walking deck).
Take an amperage reading of the motor it should be 2-3 amps with no one on it, with someone walking on it it should be around 6-12 amps. I would bet yours is elevated above 6-12 amps. The controller is dropping output because of the friction problem.
The first thing to try after testing the amperage is to lubricate the walking platform. Then retest and see if the amperage comes down and it doesn't shut off.
If it does then the next step would be to replace the walking deck. If the amperage still is up you may need to replace the walk belt second and finally if after replacing the deck and belt, if the unit is still shutting down replace the motor controller.
This means that the motor is having to work too hard to rotate. It could be one of a couple of problems. If the machine is old then it potentially could be the motor itself. it may be going bad. On most models the motor has a lifetime warranty so you can check your owners manual for that. If you have not lubricated your walking belt in over 3 years or so then it could simply be a lubrication issue. To check this stick your hand on the underside of the walking belt and feel the belt. It should feel like a screen door. If it is smoothed down then there could be too much friction that is not allowing the belt to turn. When you pull your hand it should feel like you have been eating popcorn, kind of oily.
At the end of of the running belts in the end caps will adjusting bolts you will need a allen wrench to adjust the tension. Start your treadmill and turn clockwise a 1/4 turn each time see i f you can stop the belt. You need to be aware that the drive belt can also cause this problem so I suggest that you remove the motor shroud and when you are adjusting whether the front roller is moving and the running belt has stopped or the roller has stopped and motor is rotating ( adjust Drive Belt)
