  • If a washing machine is very noisy on spin, the main suspect is the drum bearings. Drum bearing failure is common on many washing machines due to water getting into them if the drum bearing seal fails. (Hotpoint and Zanussi in particular in my experience) To check for drum bearing failure you can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand. If the drum rumbles when spun then the bearings may have gone. There should be a constant rumble all the time the drum is revolving.
  • Another drum bearing failure symptom is excessive up and down play in the drum which can be checked for by lifting the drum up and down from the drum lip behind the door seal. A further symptom of drum bearing failure can be a brown rust patch underneath the washing machine and down the back of the outer drum, underneath the drum pulley (where the belt goes) although this patch is not always present. There are usually two small holes at the back of the drum bearings where water that has got past the drum bearing seal trickles out, and it's usually stained with grease and rust if water has got into the bearings.

Simpson 175 washing machine: spin cycle noisy and motor cuts out after short spin. Bowl feels stiff

Hi just read your posting. Now from the information on your posting the machine is noisy on spin and your motor is cutting out after a short spin.Is this correct? Now does the motor cut out during a wash cycle? If the motor only cuts out during the spin cycle , and with your machine being noisy on spin,I think the fault will be your bearings are corroded. With the bearings being corroded it puts more load on the motor causing the inbuilt thermal overload in the motor to activate and turning the motor off to save it from burning out. Please reply with additional information on, if it cuts out on wash and I am sure I can help you further.

Ariston Margarita 2000 NOISY spin cycle....

Remove drum drive belt, and spin drum by hand, if there is any resistance,. or it feels rough or noisy, the the main bearigs have probably failed.
If it is o/k then check motor for worn or noisy bearings,
    Please rate my solution.
    Thanks.

    Probably main drum bearings worn
If you turn the drum by hand and it feels rough or noisy ,then definately bearings worn and noisy.

Hotpoint Aquarius WMA54 very noisy during spin

Hi, if your H/P is noisy on the spin cycle, just open the door and turn the drum a few times. If you feel some play, or kind of loud huming noise, then it is the bearings, very, very common on H/P WMA's.

Danby washing machine noisy only during spin cycle

    hi there,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping/or sound
during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and
redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

    Wm noisy

drum bearings, check and investigate, remove drive belt and then rotate, if still noisy then yes its the drum bearings, if the noise stops when the belt removed the motor bearings are faulty costly repair on most models, sorry oh there is also the possibility there is something lodged within the drum cavity between the lining and the drum casing
