My fax goes off periodicall when a call comes in.

My Hp fax goes off periodicall when a call comes in. Why?
This does not happen all the time, but it seems to be happening more often. Someone will call in and the fax machine will start to beep away.

No, what it does is make that connecting sound like it wants to sent out a fax. So the person on the other end is unable to speak and hangs up.

Do you mean that your fax rings when a call comes in? You also said it starts to "beep away". Do you mean it "rings"?

It means that your fax machine is "answering" the incoming call before you pick up the handset. Usually, the factory setting on the fax machine picks up after two incoming rings. There are three ways you can address this issue: 1.) You can either change the number of rings to, say, five incoming rings to give you enough time to answer the phone before the fax machine picks up, or 2,) you can find out if your fax machine has a feature that allows for the voice hook "click over" that will allow you to override the fax when you pick up your handset, or 3.) turn your fax machine off until you need to send a fax.

If you want to investigate number 2.), then you'll need your operator's manual.

Good luck.

I have an HP L7780. We are having an issue receiving faxing. The pages are often only 1/4 complete. There is no reported error. It doesn't happen all the time.

Send a fax on this number
1-888 HP FAX ME (1-888-473-2963)

and see whether you receive a fax from hp or not whenever HP receives a fax from any number it sends back a fax to prove the functionality you can say.

the reason behind reviving the 1/4th fax can be fault at sender's end

No print on copies or faxes

This is a clogged print head. This happens if the printer has been off for a long time or if the cartridge was removed and the unit left empty for any time.
Take out the cartridge and press the print part on a piece of paper. Any black lines? If not, you will need a new cartridge. Wiping the print head gently with a Q-tip moistened with PURE alcohol (99%) may restore printing.

HP Photosmart C7180 won't print!! I had an IT person come to my home earlier today, and it was printing when she left. Not 20 minutes after she left, it wouldn't print for me!!! This is the second time...

It would seem that your default 'printer' is set to fax and not print.
When you select print from the file menu it probably says something like HP Photosmart C7180 Fax in the printer option. If it does, go into the printer section from the control panel and make the C7180 (without the fax reference) the default (right click>set as default)

Faxing problems

Ok well here are two questions that are both going to get the same answer so here goes. Follow the link and go to the appropriate heading. Fax issues can be caused by so many issues but this is by far the best document I have seen to address them all and is in easy to understand terms. Make sure you check the fax settings just like it says and if still having issues please post again with the steps you have tried and what happened so that someone here can tackle that issue specifically. Please read and follow this first - works almost every time.

We can't send or received faxes

Just a suggestion. This effect can happen if you have plugged the line cord into the tel jack instead of line jack.
