Seagate free agent pro 500 gig external hard drive NOT RECOGNIZED

My seagate free agent pro 500 gig hard drive is no longer recognized on any computer. It powers up when i plug it in but computers can't recognize it and I can't access my data. I had it for about seven months and it just sat untouched connected to my computer until one day it just stopped working. It still lights up when it powers on but the light used to turn off when I disconnected it from the computer usb, now it stays on until i unplug it.

You better check with the Seagate people. This seems to be a problem with the casing. And since you're under warranty, you can get a replacement.

Its possible that you can still get the data from the external drive..just separate the harddrive from the case and use another external casing to access the harddrive or just add it your desktop...hope this helps...ITTech7574

For a MAC to use an external Hard drive, the hard drive has to be formatted FAT32 file system. That is the only file system MAC sees.

I have had to reinstall my operating system and drives but now the Seagate 500 GB external is not recognized. What now?

Are you using eSATA for the External or USB. If it is eSATA you may need to get the respective drivers for your motherboard for it.
