My Kohler whirlpool started on its own with no water in it. We turned it off with the switch and it hasn't happened again. Is there a danger of it starting a fire if we are away from home and it does it again? What might have caused the problem?

We just experienced the exact same situation. Our whirlpool is brand new but it's in a spare bathroom and we hadn't used the tub in months. One day the whirlpool just started on its own with no water. I tried to shut it off my the on/off switch on the tub Sid wall, but it woukd shut off. I had to shut off the circuit breaker. It hasn't happened since and has worked perfectly when I reset the breaker and filled up the tub with water. My wife was sure she hadn't hit the switch by accident. Seems like there is an issue with some quirky switch problem.

Most Kohler tubs have a water sensor or water level sensor. Is this an air bath tub (holes in the floor)? or a jetted tub? If it is an air bath, the tub will purge after using it 15 to 30 minutes ater it is drained. If it is programable it will come on every 24 hours if it has been programmed. If it is a jetted tub, there may have been water on the sensor and caused it to start up. If it is a single on/off button the switch could have gotten water and caused it to start up, or there is a problem with the control box. It usually will not start a fire if it comes on, most of the newer pumps have run dry seals. If you leave the house for vacation or weekends, I would advise unplugging the tub or turning off the breaker.

Jets won't turn off. Pushing the button does nothing. We have to unplug it (inside skirt) to shut off jets

New? Who installed? If installer, call him back. If you did it, you missed some control wiring from main box to the controls outside or someone shorted you on some critical control parts. If you aren't sure what your doing via the owner's manual, you need a good technician. Water and Electricity don't mix and can be dangerous!.

Kohler whirlpool type tub will not pump water out of its jets or take water into the intake. Pump appears to operate fine. Water does not want to move. Suggestions?

When a bath pump turns on but does not move any water it is usually because there is an Air Lock and needs to be released.Try this.
  • Fill the tub with water
  • Turn the pump on
  • Unthread the discharge pump union until water starts to squirt out
  • when this happens you should hear a big 'swoosh'

if the bath pump starts to discharge water through the jets then you have solved the problem.

When I fill my tub and turn the timer on it only shows an "L". I know this means that the water level is too low, but even when the water is well above the jets, it still say "L". I...

this happens sometimes when the leads under the tub get a bit corroded. Get under the tub and find the studs and screws that are at the end of the low water sensor wires and clean them up with some emery cloth then reinstall them.
this should get you back up and running again.

Kohler whirpool tub will not turn on

Here is the manual for the tub. The switch is an air switch with tube. You have to make sure the tube has no holes in it or replace it if you can. look on the manual it will help you out.
