Red light blinking 3 times on Sony xl2400 lamp replacement

I bought a new Sony xl2400 lamp. Delicately and accurately replaced the old lamp with the new one. Installed the lamp and housing correctly. Closed the lamp access doors correctly. Turned on TV...red light blinking 3 times and nothing else. Tried again and again. Put the old lamp back in (thinking maybe new lamp was bad) Same thing happens. FYI...I did not buy a new housing, just new lamp. I put the old housing back together on the new lamp just as instructed. What could I be doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated as I didn't get much sleep last night. Normally technical issues like this don't elude my problem solving abilities.

I solved this problem myself. You have to continue working with the housing until the connections meet just perfect. It was extremely frustrating but in the end I got it to work.

I had the same problem with my Sony. It took me almost 15 times of removing the bulb and trying to get it to seat properly. I finally zoned in on the small switch on the lower right side of the bulb location. This switch needs to be completely compressed or the TV will not recognize that the bulb is in its place. The replacement lamp (bulb and housing) that I had purchased did not have the 2 millimeter raised area that contacts that switch. I built up three layers of plastic cement in the area that contacts the switch to keep it depressed. After letting that harden over night I put the bulb in and it worked the first try.

I had same issue. Green power light comes on briefly, fan starts to power up, then it dies and power light starts flashing red 3 times over and over. Above solution is correct. You have to play with it until it seats just right. After pushing unit in firmly so it fits snug, try lifting unit up ever so slightly. There is just a slight amount of play, but make sure it is fully seated. Try moving it up or down a hair, and keep retrying. Ridiculous, I know, but better than sending it back to get another one that does the same thing. After about 10 tries, it worked. I think the replacements may be more sensitive. During my trial and error, I popped the old one back in (since it wasn't completely burned out) and it fired right up the first time.

Same issue as those above. I was just about to return the replacement part when I stumbled upon this thread. I tried what Charlie recommended, an even wiggled it a little (I wouldn't try to mess with it too much) - but nothing happened!
I was going to finally give up when I decided to push down on the release lever (pulling it up releases it). I'd figure to push the lever down so it's on there firmly. IT WORKED!

I didn't realize you have to push down on the lever handle all the way till it locks. That solved the problem.

3 times red light blinking indicates that Lamp Cover has not been fixed in its location properly after lamp replacement.

Hi there,
5 blinks means there is a problem with the video board. It could be as simple as unplugging everything, includding power. Wait 3 minutes then plug power only back in. Or it may be a damaged component that requires replacing.
Hope this helps
