This solution is based on my assumption that you're using the iLink (Firewire/IEEE1394) port on the camcorder, and that you're using a PC running Windows 2000/XP/Vista.

Make sure the camcorder is plugged into its AC adapter, as sometimes people report problems when using battery power. If you're using a laptop PC, plug it into the mains also. Shutdown your PC completely (click the Start button, then choose Shutdown, then select "shutdown my pc" or "turn off") and turn it on again; then plug in the camcorder.

If that doesn't work, try a different port, if you have more than one. Other things to try are a different PC (might be a problem with your port, drivers, or the Windows installation) or a different cable (might be a broken wire inside the cable).

If you get the same problem when using a different PCs and different cables, you should take your camcorder in for servicing.

Hi HRU? Sir pls tell me how I can copy my Movies from Cam Coder of Sony DCR-HC28E in my pc although I have connect via usb cable to my computer but no any reply i foud. So pls guide me how I can?

This is the step-by-step for downloading from your camera as found on Sony's tutorial page:

  1. Turn on the computer.
  2. On the computer, install the USB driver for the digital camcorder. Note: Only the USB driver included on the supplied CDROM will properly enable the digital camcorder for USB streaming. Alternatively, you can download the USB driver here.
  3. Turn on the digital camcorder to the VTR, VCR or PLAYBACK mode.
  4. Turn on the USB streaming feature of the digital camcorder.
  5. Connect the USB cable to the digital camcorder.
  6. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the computer.
  7. Cue the video to the beginning of the video footage to be transferred.
  8. Start the video capture software on the computer.
  9. Begin playing the recorded video in the camcorder.
  10. Begin importing the recorded video with the capture software.

Using sony dcr-sr36 as a webcam

Unfortunately is not possible directly - Your cam do not support USB streaming... But You may use any cheap video capture device like Pinnacle Studio movie box or similar to connect Your camera via S-video cable because Your camera has an analog output. Only one requirement - the capture card must have an S-video input or simply RCA video input. It's easy - connect video out and audio out of Your cam to the capture device and then connect USB of capture device to Your computer.
Good luck!

Unable to connect Sony DCR-PC3 handy cam to my pc

make sure that you are using the correct firewire plugs (4 pin on the camera and 4 or 6 pin on the computer depending on the computer). If you are sure you have all this correct, check your BIOS settings for a disabled media card or 1394 controller.
