Try this first on the original remote. Insert the batteries backward and make sure that they make contact with the terminals in the remote control(stick a piece of metal in there to make sure all the posts make contact), then take them off and install them correctly and see if it works, it's a long shot but i've had some luck using this method. now, for the question regarding if the new remote will work, well, i couldn't find the correct code for your receiver using the RCA universal control.
