Let me explain....if you were to take apart any of these battery packs, you would find, normally, 6 individual 18650 cells, wired to provide the necessary volts....when these cells are allowed to discharge below a certain point, they will no longer register enough voltage, as a pack, to energize the circuitry and allow charging to begin. You need to "shock" the pack with another DC power source that is greater than the voltage of the pack when fully charged...an 18V pack might require 30 to 36 volts DC. Shocking occurs by touching +to + and - to -, good source to bad battery...hold for 2 seconds and release...you will raise the volts of the pack back up to a point where the charger will recognize the pack and charge it.
If they are Ni cad they are bad. Leaving them on charger destroys them

I have a McCulloch, that the hose rotted off the fuel strainer in the tank, I replace the hoses, it ran for awhile then stopped, removed the carb. an have cleaned, { 7 Times} it runs for awhile then stops, Usually I dump lighter fluid in the carb. if it starts Ign is OK if not its a fuel problem. You could check on the filter, I still have a problem with mine, its a pain when your on the roof an it stops. so check the fuel filter is the only thing I could suggest to you GOOD LUCK
SOURCE: I believe my Ryobi 12 VoltBattery Line trimmer need a new battery
First, check to see if the charger is working properly. To do this, recharge the battery for about 15 minutes. Then check to see if it now runs the trimmer. If so, then you have a bad battery. You can go on the WEB and find a replacement. These batteries or sensitive to heat and cold. When storing, try to place it in a comfortable environment. Sorry for your loss. If it still under warranty, check with the Co.
SOURCE: how to fix an old RYOBI 18 volt battery won't
take a hammer, and apply force. These batteries dont last forever... but i am serious about the hammer... you may be able to free up whats inside (if you know how a batterey works.)... also apply heat.. try to hit it from all angles than slam it down on the back and leave it sit... than try. I hope this works for you my dewalt batteries over the years have don this, and it works.. but BTW. it wont hold a charge for very long anymore.. the battery is pretty much garbage.
