i have the same model with the same problem. i just paid a repair man to fix it. he adjusted the focus block. if you remove the lower front panel, then remove this other access panel under that there will be a block with 6 knobs on it to the upper left of the access port. 2 for each projector. play with the knobs till you can read the menu options again (mine was so dark i couldnt). then turn your color all the way down till its black and white. then adjust them until you get a nice perfect even gray. then turn your color up and adjust your settings. thats it in a nutshell. it took the pro about a half hour or so. if it takes you longer dont feel bad. i hope me paying for this service helps you guys out.

take the screen off by unscrewing all screws around back of tv. remove panel with a sticker that says " no user serviceable parts inside" remove both screws on each side of screen at bottom with black tabs. there will be 2 screws behind the panel with the sticker on it and unplug the front panel buttons connector. then clean the small mirror with very soft cloth maybe nice cotton t-shirt. be very careful not to scratch the face of the mirror. i would recommend ussing just the cloth but have found isopropyl alcohol to work well if you need to use any liquid.

I have a tv with the same problem. I gained access to the service menu (using the remote) and was able to increase the brightness available from my regular remote menu. It may kill my tv quicker but it looks great now. To find out how to access the menu I did a search for 'jvc service menu' and found out what buttons to push. There are many warnings out there about the possibilities of ruining was was ok to start with, but I used particular care(pen and paper) to record the original brightness setting for my tv. best of luck and merry christmas

One of two possible issues:
1. Lamp is nearing end of life and may dim just before total failure.
2. A few of these models have 2 mirrors(check with Mitsubishi to see if yours is one) A large mirror in back (never gives a problem and do not try to clean it. Some idiot in these sets used a small mirror inside that the optical unit shines the picture into (wedge shaped mirror and small) and it is facing up----the fans intake air from the front of the set around this mirror--it gets coated with lots of dust---Picture can loose up to 70% of its brightness and clarity if that mirror is dirty--looks like 20 year old set .
If you do not wish to check with Mitsubishi GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER with "mirrors" to see.
If it has 2 mirrors I can tell you exactly how to get at it.
