Yes. You need to purchase two-cycle oil and mix it with petrol according to the chainsaw manufacturer instructions (this information is in the manual). It will specify the appropriate mix for your chainsaw.

Put oil in your petrol can add the exact amount of petrol put the cap on shake well use and store out of sunlight

Joseph check the air filter isn't blocked. Also make sure the choke isn't engaged.

40:1 is the ratio for modern saws so I expect it's the same for the older ones. Use good 2 stroke oil like Husqvarna or Stihl brands rather than the cheaper stuff you can buy at car service stations which don't really protect a saw.

chain saws are 40:1
3.2 ounces of 2-cycle engine oil per gallon of gasoline

if using a good quality 2 stroke oil brand
mix it @ ratio 50:1 that is 100 mils of oil per 5 litres of petrol

or on a 1 litre basis it would be 20 mils of oil per litre
but !!!! if you are using generic 2 stroke oil from a garage
run it on 25:1 mix that is 40 mils of oil per litre of petrol

be sure to put required qty of in clean container 1st then add petrol qty to the can and give good shake , then fill your saw
