I have a panasonic viera tv, hooked up with verizon Fios. Many times when I turn the tv on, it is in closed caption mode. I am usually able to turn it off with the Fios remote (the only remote i use with the tv). I assume then it is a CC option on the tv itself? The problem is i have no idea where the panasonic remote is. Is there any other way to turn it off, or where can i buy a remote for the tv (and if that is teh case, how did it turn itself on?). Thanks!

Try a master reset on the TV. With the TV powered on, prss and hold down the up button on the remote (there are 4 buttons grouped together for up down left and right) and while holding down the up button, press the power button on the TV. The unit should power off and then turn back on and ask you to select a language. Let me know if this helps and be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

We're having the same problem with our 42-inch Viera purchased today (TCP42U2).
SOURCE: cannot get the closed captioning
Look for button marked STTL on the tv remote. Not the remote that came with the dvd or home theatre. The actual TV remote.
