Go to my computer and open it, and you should see the Flash Drive. Right click on it, and from the dropdown menu select format. (It will be FAT 32)
As I am not familiar with your exact make of drive, check that if it has a tiny slide protect switch on the side. If it has, try formatting it, if it won't, push the switch forward or back and it should then format.
As you do not give details of your computer, I cannot give further instruction for a your Operating system. If it's XP the drive should be recognised automatically, but if its Win98, it will need you to install the driver you got with it on the CD supplied..

When i plug my 4g cruzer micro usb memory stick nothing happens the cpmuter dosnt read that it is plugged in

Try a different USB device on each of the USB ports on your computer.
Hopefully, all your USB ports are working correctly.

Try a different USB port on your computer.
Hopefully, the SanDisk will be detected on one of the ports.

Try a USB port on a different computer.
If the SanDisk still is not detected, then spend $10 to buy a new 4GB flash-drive.

  • Sometimes when a flash memory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory USB hard drive device appears to malfunction it may be possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted then it will indicate that it is Healthy.

If this doesn't work then it is faulty.

HP Pavilion zv6000: USB ports are inop. USB port on rear of computer works fine. USB port on left/front will power my flash drive, but the light stays on constantly. The flash drive is does NOT show up in...

After reading the description, I think you need to try updating BIOS and latest device drivers for USB. Because USB are getting power on that means there would not be any fault to from the motherboard.

So please try updating latest BIOS for your notebook.
If you can provide me the product no for your notebook and the operating system which you are using currently then I can find the one for you.

Otherwise you can also do the same.

Type in the product no. on www.hp.com. Then go to software and driver download page, select the proper OS and search in BIOS ROM pack available for your notebook.

I hope this will help.

I plug in the sundisk cruzer 2.0 GB USB device and all it does is blink. It will not show up on my computer for the drive.

Hello

If the computer recognize that there is a device plugged into the system, then just try to plug the flashdrive into another port at the back of your case.

If the computer does not recognize that there is a device plugged in, there is a problem with your flash drive. It still gets power from the computer(Bliking light), but there is no data transfer between computer and flash drive.

If it is still under warrenty, send the flash in for repairs(presuming that your USB ports work), otherwise try and see if it works on a other computer. If it does, the the problem is with the USB ports on your computer. I really hope this can be of help.

Best regards

When I put my DaneElec 4GB USB Drive into my USB port, nothing happens. We have Vista.

Do other USB devices work when you plug them in the USB port?
If they don't then you have a faulty USB port otherwise the DaneElec is faulty or needs formatting.

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health

USB not working

if the usb detects other devices and not your drive, the drive itself may be faulty. If you plug in other devices in the usb and it detects them the usb drive or its connector is most likely bad.If it won't detect any devices the port is bad and drivers won't help.Possibly a motherboard issue.

My averatec series 3200 notebook cant detect my usb device

The flash disk could be faulty, especially when it draws too much power, and this will cause the USB ports to shut down and the other USB devices won't work until the faulty device is removed.

Flash drive not working

An option that you could do is to plug the flash drive in the back of the computer. The reason is because flash drives derive power from the USB port itself unlike other usb devices that you are using may have their own power or because the USB port in front does not give as much power as the one from the back.
