Cordless phone has volume problems with DSL

I have DSL with a filtered splitter at the wall jack, with one line going to the DSL router and the other to the phone. The Uniden EXAI5580 cordless phone has terrible volume degredation if DSL is plugged in, but I have no problems if I use a ''regular'' phone. Any solutions to fix the cordless phone volume issue?

For starters that dsl modem should not be filtered.
You should place the splitter directly into the wall jack and place the filter on the side used for the phone. The side feeding the dsl line should not be filtered.
The filter serves 2 purposes. 1 it reduces data noise interference onto the voice line. 2 it prevents dsl interference from voice such as picking up and hanging up the receiver.

Why does phone need dsl filter

Did the other phone quit working? If you have DSL there could be a splitter installed at you NID? (Network Interface Device) put there by the phone company, it could have gone bad. Do you have other phones in the house, and are they working or not. try another jack? you may just have a bad jack where you are.

Zoom X7n Dsl 2/2 Modem/router/gw dsl light blinks constantly when trying to connect to Earthlink

Try removing the splitter, if it works then you might have a faulty splitter and you need to get it replaced. You might check if you are using the first phone jack in your house / apartment. I remember that was key when i was on DSL. Hope you get it sorted out, not having a working connection is very annoying.

Uniden wall-mounted cordless phone unusable since DSL installed

This happened because there are too many phones sharing the same line with no power amplifiers.
Your phone line is self powered by a small current generated by the phone company (that's why old, wired phones don't need a separate power connection to ring or make calls, it's enough to just plug them in). Each phone you connect to the same line acts as a resistor and drains some of this current. Eventually not enough power is left to carry the signal.
The phone company technician can fix this by installing power amplifiers.
In any case, I would test this theory by unhooking all other phones and checking the cordless ones on their own.
If they work fine, call back the phone company and ask for a "real" repair person..

There is a buzzing sound on my end of the phone line, my computer is on DSL and sometimes it disconnects when the phone rings. I've checked the cords and the phone has a new battery.

You have interference due to the DSL overlapping your phone line its usually very common, make sure you have a DSL filter inline with your phone line , if not I would check out the RJ-45 jack in the wall, your phone jack and make sure that there isnt anything wrong with your Jack, you may have to call your phone company and have the phone tech's check out your wall Jack for any interference, they have special phone line meters to measure all this out.

Good luck,

When my phone rings the kids get booted off xbox live and i have wireless internet and wireless adapter for xbox360

Hi Jeannie,

Based on your problem I assume that you have DSL. When you get hooked up for DSL they send filters that you are supposed to put between EVERY phone and the jack. (Don't forget phone lines for satellite and alarm systems).

If your dsl drops every time the phone rings, there are usually 2 things that cause this.

1) A bad filter in your house. If a filter is bad or missing it can cause the dsl to drop either when the phone rings or if someone picks up the phone with the bad filter.

2) The other reason could be on your ISP's side. It's called a POTS splitter. You have one of these if you have BOTH phone and DSL. It's what sort of combines the 2 together. There are a number of problems that can occur with a bad pots splitter. i.e. DSL works - phone totally dead, Phone works-dsl - totally dead, disconnects, etc...

I suggest that you hook up the dsl modem by itself. DISCONNECT ALL PHONES IN THE HOUSE. Do NOT have anything connected at all except the dsl modem. No filters, phones, directv, digital cable, or anything else in a phone jack. Then when you are up and surfing, take your cell phone and call your house. Technically it should just ring and ring. Unless you have voice mail in which case it will go to voice mail after so many rings. Anyway, see if when the line is ringing in your cell phone if it is dropping you off. If it DOESN'T, then it's probably one of the filters, jacks, or wiring. If it still disconnects, it's probably the POTS splitter with your ISP.

Good luck and if this helped please help me out and leave feedback!

Thanks!

My new LevelOne WBR 3600B router does not eyncronize

Hi, If you are using dsl line, then try to add SPLITTER or FILTER between wall jack and phone.
When you connect splitter you will have one input line and two output line, one is called voice which you connect to phone and the other is data which you connect to router.
you can use LAN cable to connect modem and computer. before you set the connection please remove all the connection from wall jack to computer, wait for 2 mins and then re connect, like this it will remove if any static charges stored. If you are able to see the DSL light is up and no more blinking, Then your problem is solved. Hope this information will help you

I accidentally disconnect the filter where does it go, on the westell? I have two phone lines one for internet and other for fax with a splitter

The filter should go into the wall jack, and the dsl modem should go into the "DSL" port of the filter, and the fax should go into the "Phone" port of the filter.

Also make sure that all other telephones in the house are connected to filters :)

No dial tone, just buzzing noise - should be 2 line phone, 1 jack

What you need is a dsl filter since you are working off a splitter. You can usually get these for free from your phone company.

Siemens gigaset se587 wlan dsl

HI

A flashing ADSL light on the router means its not getting constant broadband signals. Make sure it is connected to the adsl filter without any extensions and the filter should be directly connect to the main phone socket and not to an extension socket. Also check if the phone socket has 1 or more than 1 ports on it. If it has two port its most likely a SSFP socket which does not require a filter as it is inbuit. If all the connections are fine try changing da filter.

Filter

Hi - You don't need a filter on the router line, that would stop it from working!

The purpose of the filter is to stop the "modem" noise from affecting the phone call.

The dual filter you describe can be used as a "splitter" so you can use the phone & router (DSL) in the same wall socket.

Hope that clears it up!

Please take a moment to rate this solution & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!
