There are many fans in servers. If one dies the others will work overtime to keep it cool. It sounds like you lost a fan somewhere.

When the server starts up you may see a POST message on the screen pointing out which fan failed. Otherwise, remove the cover and look for a failed fan. Be careful not to leave the cover off for very long. The cover is what makes sure the air flows correctly over the components.

Problems with IBM Xseries 346 Server

Check Light Path Diagnostic which is located on the front side of server . It gives a clue of what's the issue . If you can't see any amber on Light Path Diagnostic , then its an indication of max logs logged on BIOS event logs. You may need to restart server > Get into Bios and clear all event logs . This would remove the information sympol from server .

I have one server IBM X series 346, which is giving Fan alarm , its fan LED showing amber, though server is working fine.

The problem could be a faulty CPU fan or the fan and heat sinl assembly is clogged with dust.
Check the fan, if it does not spin freely then replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust, remove the dust and use a can of compressed air to clear the dust from the heat sink fins.

I have an IBM x346 eserver that has run well for years. The fans are now very load (whirling noise). I typically only hear this noise when the room temp is high, but this server is in a cool room with no...

It sound like the CPU fan or server case fan/s or power supply fan bearings are worn.
To determine which fan/s is faulty open the computer case and stop each fan from spinning, one at a time to determine the noisy fan. Once you have identified the noisy fan then replace that fan.
