Most of the thinkpads do have a proper restore function that will restore to factory default from a special partition on the hard drive. That option is usually available during boot up.

It is some time since I did a thinkpad so just take great care to watch the screen as you switch on.

It may say press "F10 to start restore" or somthing very similar.

How do I restore a IBM Thinkpad to factory settings I have tried to logon to windows XP it open's, but but will not let me in. I have pressed F11 and got Startup Interrup Menu

If it has the blue IBM Access button on it, press that immediately after turning on the computer. It should load a page with options to run a recovery.

Restore IBM Thinkpad R500 Windows Vista to factory settings, erasing all passwords

You need a recovery disc for this operation. If you're any good with computers at all, and do not do this lightly, you can download dukes ban. Again this is not for novice pc users. This will literally and completely wipe your entire computer. Nothing will be recoverable and you will have to set everything. even the Hard Drive sizes. You will then need an OS disc like windows vista, windows 7, windows xp, etc and reload the entire OS back onto the hard drive.

I want to reset my laptop to factory settings

If you have a Factory Recovery Partition, Reboot and use the procedure in this forum: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/R-and-L-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Product-Recovery-Windows-XP-ThinkPad-R50e/td-p/92036 OR, If you have the Factory Recovery Disks, put Disk 1 in the CD ROM and reboot, OR contact IBM for a Set of Factory Recovery Disks, if available.

Thinkpad R50e restore fabric settings/partition erased

If you need to reset it, you can get a recovery disk from IBM Lenovo which will be much cheaper than getting a new copy of Windows. When you call up IBM, make sure you keep your serial no handy.

How do you reset the ibm think pad to factory settings

Restore to factory settings is a misnomer in that it doesn't exist if you didn't create a back up disc when you first got the PC/Laptop.. You can do a clean reinstall wich is the nearest you'll ever get

You will need an Operating System disc which you will need to buy.

A back up of your drivers.

Reformat the drive and reinstall the OS and Drivers and that's it.

The Question remains "Why do you need to do it?"

Change Thinkpad to Windows XP

when you start your pc press F8 key or theF10 key on start up you have to press it several time for it to go to the system restore program. this will reinstall windows but only if you have not used the cd to change the settings on you computer it may erase all data and restore it to factory settings. You also can do this with a back up to save you file or you can transfer them to a differnt device for safe keeping.

Ibm restore to factory setting

You have not explained what is wrong with your computer.
Is the laptop working, does it boot up into Windows?
What are you trying to restore?
Are you trying to get into a previous Restore Point?
The Access button takes you into the BIOS, you can change the BIOS settings back to the Default settings (ie the factory default settings).
It is difficult to offer a solution without knowing the exact nature of the problem.
