Dishwasher not cleaning dishes

My dishes always have dried food stuck on them. Especially the glasses. If they are plastic it is not bad, but for real glasses they are always spotted and have food in the bottom of them. In the bottom of the dishwasher where the spinner is there is a lot of food and stuff down there. I can't get to it. How do I get in there to clean it out?

I had the same problem and fixed it by disassembling the lower spray arm and return filter, and cleaning all the junk out.
Most dishwashers have 'risers' that bring the water up to the top sprayer or arm located under the top rack. If the recirculating pump is plugged even a little there won't be enough volume or pressure to get the water up there.
Test this by putting a dry muffin pan in the top rack, flat, and running the dishwasher for a bit. If there is no water on the top (or the bottom) either the top sprayer or the sprayer arm underneath the top rack is not getting enough volume.
To fix this you need to clean out the screen and filter, where the water returns to be recirculated. If you don't have any confidence to remove the parts and clean it out yourself, get an appliance repair person to do the job.

My maytag dishwasher is not cleaning properly. when the cycle is finished i find that the detergent did not disolve and rinse away. Instead I find it in a hard crusted lump on the bottom of the machine....

This means the bottom cleaning arm is not spinning. Most arms are removable, one large nut or some plastic fingers or a release. Remove the arm and clean it out. There is likely food, glass or objects stuck in the arm. Broken glass can be really stuck! Watch your fingers!

Whirlpool du1055xtsq 3 not cleaning top rack of

In my experience, you probably have a clog in the spray arm/arms for the top rack. Take the arm(s) out and see if the holes in them are clogged. Rice, plastic wrappers, and glass from dishes that broke in there are the most common culprits I've seen.

Dishes smell like fish

Hi, I've been scanning this for awhile as I have this problem on and off. I have watched what I have been cooking and have come to the conclusion it's to do with eggs.  I always noticed it when we had eggs ( they are fed with ground up fish) so changed to vegetarian  fed  chicken eggs and problem got better, I only notice it now if I use a salad cream or mayonnaise type products with egg added in the ingredients and I hand wash these away from all other items.  I have noticed many comments on hygiene, but if you have this problem you become a cleaning nut trying to get rid of it. I always clean with vinegar and bleach and it did not work with this one. Hope this helps

Kenmore elite dishwasher leaves food particles on dishes

If someone is putting dishes in the washer and obstructing the spray ams that would cause food to stay on dishes. After loading dishwasher and pushing in baskets make sure the spray arm doesnt hit any of the dishes causing them to not clean properly. If that doesnt work or is definately not your problem try removing the spray arm and seeing if it has food inside of it. Some times they get food build up in them and need to be flushed out.

This worked for us - I hope it works for you. We have had problems with grit on the dishes, especially in glasses or items on the top racks. We tried: Different detergents; Heavy cycle every single load; loading different ways; rinse agents; shopping for a new freakin' machine!
After reading the total lack of satisfaction people had with almost every machine listed, and a very unsatisfactory level of hot water during a shower - I realized the core intake temperature of our water dropped significantly in the fall/winter. I went and used the "high temp wash" on some seriously soiled loads (on heavy cycle). Everything came out clean. I am back to using the normal cycle for everything, but always with the High Temp Wash. I figure the improved performance saves rerunning loads, longer cycles, and frustration - so I am fine with the added electric expense. I always use rinse agent. I use Walmart dish soap.
Good luck!
