Hello,
I am using compaq CQ40-108TU laptop. I want to downgrade my OS from VISTA to XP. I tried With Installing XP but it shows message that Local Disk (C) may be affected by virus. When i enquired I was informed that COMPAQ CQ40-108TU was designed for VISTA but i have seen people using XP in CQ40-108TU model. what should i do to downgrade my OS from VISTA to XP?
But there is no ption of disabling SATA in bios on Compaq CQ40 lappies, so how we go about it then?
Here you can use a software "nlite" and prepare a customised xp installation disc by integrating your SATA drivers (for Sata drivers search with AHCI Sata drivers in google). once the cd is ready install as you do it on desktop its so easy.
Prepare a Bootable XP Disc installer.
At first go to BIOS Setup to Boot First Priority the CD/DVD Rom Drive.
After that disabled SATA or RAID Configuration. The Bootable XP Disc Installer could not go on when you don't disable the SATA or RAID Connection.
Don't worry that you are thinking it would not detected the SATA HDD by Bootable Disc but it is. Then follow the instruction.
Good luck!
If i am helpful to you please rate me.
Thank you.

I want to install winxp in my laptop compaq cq40
Ok this problem is related to sata mode settings, log in ur bios, and in advance setting u see hdd controller disable sata mode, and then install xp, if u cant then check the sata device driver from the google, copy that driver in cd, and the install xp, after few min of installation there is option to install sata driver or raid driver do this and when asked for driver just insert ur driver disk in cd rom driver, wola u get ur xp installing on 108 tu
First when you power up the laptop press F1 or F2 or "del" button for enter in bios then check in advanced option that your SATA option is disabled .
Then check your harddisk is detected in bios .
Then boot your computer with winxp bootable disk then follow the procedure delete all partition then create new partition then format 1 partition thats it if you can try 1-4 times you done it.
Yes dear you can use Windows XP on it. Just format the drive C: and then install on it windows XP. This is simple and easy there will no virus present in your PC that create problem for your PC health.
