Sony SLV-D300P DVD/VHS Player Tape Eject Problem

My mom reports to me that her Sony SLV-D300P DVD /VHS player is not playing VHS tapes. When a VHS tape is placed into the machine the player ejects it back out. This is happening with all tapes, old tapes, new blank tapes and prerecorded movies (tapes with the record tab removed). She also reports that the player will start FWD and RWD on its own with out a tape in the machine.
I had her power the unit down by unpluging and replugging in the unit hoping to reset the player.
Is there a any type of reset button or process to reset this type of DVD / VHS unit??

How to eject a stuck vhs tape.

I will show you how to eject a stuck vhs tape. I did this on the sony slv-d300p first, unplug it. Next, take out all the screws on the back. Take off the cover. Locate the loading motor on the right. Turn the gears next to it. After about 5 minutes, the tape should eject. While its open, take a CLEAN piece of paper, hold it up to the drum, and rotate it with the paper against the back. after 5 minutes, take the paper off and stop spinning. the paper may be dirty. put the cover back on, and try to put in a vhs c adapter with NO vhs c in it. when you put it in, it should spit it back out.

The Sony SLV-D300P is a DVD PLAYER and VCR. It does not record DVDs. You would have to buy a combo unit with a DVD recorder, not just a DVD player.

When I put a tape in, it loads, then stops.

It sounds like the machine needs a thoro cleaning especially around the guide pins and tape head. Also make sure that the tape is not being excessively tensioned in the cassette housing. If it happens on more than 1 tape then thoro cleaning of the transport mechanism in the machine is required. You may need to run a cleaning cycle more than once or get it to a repair shop to do it for you. If it happens on all tapes then it is possible that one of the guides has become worn or bent, or the drive mechanism is at fault or the drive belt has become stretched and will need replacing.

Sony SLV-N60 stopped playing suddenly

Sounds like you have a head-clog. You can purchase a VHS Head Cleaner at Radio Shack for $5.00. If that doesn't work repairing your VCR is not cost effective when you consider that you can purchase a new VHS/DVD combo deck for under $125.00
