I have Asus WL 520gu connected to my cable modem (Scientific Atlanta). The router can read the modem, but no internet access. I used auto setup, no manual input. Can anyone help me? Any suggestion is appreciated.

1, connect your wireless router with cable to your laptop,
2. Login into your Asus-WL520gu and setup your wireless how you want it to run." do not bother with putting your username settings in there"
3. In your Asus-WL-520gu after setting up your wireless turn the DHCP off in it.
4. Now connect the cable that you have connected to your laptop to your router instead of your laptop.
""You should now be able to connect to the wireless with your settings. and connect anything ells you want to the other 4 ports on the back of you wireless router"" note: do not connect anything to the WAN port as it is used for DSL modems; and not Routers with ADSL modem.
when connecting a router to a router - the one that is connecting you to the internet needs DHCP turned on because it is the one that will be giving you IPs and Gateway settings - the other router such as wireless router after setting it up needs its DHCP turned off - other wise you will have 2 routers trying to do the same thing with ip's and gateways. And you should never connect a modem router to the WAN port as it is a modem router and NOT just a DSL-modem. The WAN port is intended for DSL-modems only. Not only consumers but also many technicians make that mistake

Not sure how to connect to my cable internet modem

On the rear of the unit, there should be an RJ45 connector labeled "WAN". Using a short network cable, usually supplied with the cable modem, connect the modem to the router. Follow the instructions in the router manual for setup. If you do not have the manual and/or the utilities, go to the URL below and select from the list of available downloads.

I want to connect a Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR 2000 series Cable Modem to a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G wireless router but the linksys doesnt detect the modem and the computer wont let the setup program for...

Most Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use Media Access Control (MAC) Address authentication to establish Internet connection for end-users. MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to the network adapter/s of the computer.
To set up your Linksys router to work with a Cable ISP, you have to enable the MAC Clone feature of the router. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a router to copy the MAC address of the computer that's registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys router with Cable connection you need to perform four steps using the computer that's been registered with the ISP:
i. Verifying Internet Connection
ii. Connecting Devices Together
iii. Checking the Router's LEDs
iv. Configuring a Linksys Router for a Cable Internet Connection

Networking Problem

When you are connected to your modem, find out what your IP address is....(double click on the icon in the lower left corner of your monitor) under the support tab it will give you your IP address you are being issued from your ISP. Now go ahead and connect the router and then connect your pc to your router. Go to your web based settings of your router....(type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into an open browser window) admin is usually the username and password. From there you will want to go to "status"...make sure the same ip address was assigned to your router as it was assigned to your PC. If not you will have to release and renew to have your ISP re-assign to your new router. Within those settings ensure there is nothing prohibiting you from accessing the internet....your router will have a built in firewall as well as have mac filtering and certain other security settings. Let me know if this helps....once you have done this I will check back and assist you further if this is unsuccessful.

Good Luck

Can not get my adsl modem to connect through ASUS wireless router

it could be the modem and the router has the same ip address. the asus router has an ip of 192.168.1.1, check if the dynalink modem has an ip of 192.168.1.x. if so, change the router's ip to 192.168.x.x (e.g. 192.168.2.1) then see if you'll be able to connect to the internet while the modem is connected to the wan port of the router

Exactly ASUS WL-500g, no internet connection

My advice and personal experiences with both wired and wireless connectivity, is if you wish to share files and internet connection, purchase a combined Modem/Router and not a seperate router to work along side your original modem. Your modem will send your router an ip address in turn your pc is sent one from your router and can get complicated; keep it simple! These are much easier to set up and control as one unit and if there are ever any connection problems you will know it's either a setting or a modem/router problem and not have to wonder ; is it the modem?; Router? settings? etc. As there are frequent loss of connections both internet and LAN it makes sense have one peice of equipment to maintain.
