1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport The fuse that handles power for the instrument panel, radio, remote key, interior lights, ... blows from time to time. When I insert a new one the new one immediately blows as well. I have been able to replace it from time to time with no problem and it works fine for weeks. When I measure the current across the fuse terminals I get a large current draw for about a second and then it drops to about 25 mA. Any suggestions appreciated.

This was my first posting so not sure why you think you have advised before.

If this were a short it would continue to pull the higher current and not drop off to a small current draw.

Also, did a test of putting a jumper in place of the fuse to test. All systems that I am aware of worked properly with the jumper so I am mostly confident that I do not have a short in any of those systems.

I do appreciate your comment but doubt that is addresses this issue.

Not sure but I advised you before!!
Any way last time!
You have to t/s the moment the fuse blows and elimate the systems (short) connected to that fuse, for sample, dis connect the interior light, install fuse, if it blows than it is NOT the interior light, keep going till you find the short!

1998 Grand Cherokee, 4L/6c.T Ticking sound in interior, passanger fuse box, # 7 culprit (20 amp, yellow; Ticking occurs without key in ignition, remove fuse ticking stops

I doubt its a short. a short to power would mean something is getting power besides through the fuse and your battery would die. I short to ground would cause the fuse to blow. my guess would be some device that is controlled by this fuse is malfunctioning. if you can try and unplug devices like the radio amplifier and see if the noise is removed.

best of luck

I bought a 96 jeep cherokee sport & the interior lights only come on for the front passenger door. the three other doors & the hatch dont turn on the interior lights & i cant find any fuse box...

Can you turn on the lights with the Interior light switch?. If a light works, obviously the fuse is good. You will need a wiring diagram and a test light to figure out where to start.

Dash and shifter lights in 1996 jeep cherokee wont light

Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.
