I just replaced the cmos battery on my poweredge 4300 running server 2003. It will no longer boot up. It goes through and checks memory and displays the following: ''Poweredge 4300/500
empbedded server management firmware rev 5.21
system backplane firmware 5.35,
power supply paralleling board firmware rev 2.34 Dell Poweredge expandable Raid controller 2 Bios v1.1-3 (build 1973) <1998 adaptec, inc. all rights reserved.
<<< Press
Wairing for array controller #0 to start
it sits for approx 5 minutes and continues with this:
Fatal error: controller monitor failed - Array controller not started.
I have checked the bios and the time and all the settings are correct. Additionally I have installed the ISA_CLEAR jumper (jumper is off by default) and rebooted the machine, got the error message :Invalid Configuration imformation Please run setup program, and it still hangs while attempting to start array controller#0. I turned the machine off, removed the jumper as it is by default, I no longe get the invalid configuration error message but it still hangs. Not sure what I erased or needs to reset, but prior to this all was booting up and operating just fine. Not being able to wrap my head around this thing is driving me nuts!! Thanks!
Check the version for the Raid Controller. This may need to have the firmware to be upgraded. If the controller is removable, take the controller out and then see if the computer will continue past the bios. If the controller is built-in, then disable it in the bios, and try to see if it will get past the controller setup.
On most system I have worked with, if you are booting from a scsi hard drive, then the bios cannot be set to let any IDE to boot, or the bios must be set to no hard drive to boot. There may be two places in the bios which must be set to no hard drive. Another setting which may make a difference, is the scsi boot setting, if it has it. Another chance is that something is wrong with either the cabling or the controller itself.
As far as the jumper, that may be the erase bios jumper. Usually though, you have to move the jumper to one of two, sometimes three or four jumper. You would simply move the jumper to the erase setting, and then move it back. However, by doing that, you will lose all setting which had been set. Also, if the computer will go past the bios when the controller is removed, that could also mean some thing is wrong with a drive, or the boot drive is not set right in the controller bios. If a scsi drive is a boot drive, that boot drive number must be set right in the bios of the controller.

Just above the ISA clear there is one labeled Card_Bios
the one labeled card_bios has no jumper installed from the factory
is there a jumper on the motherboard for reseting the bios?
