I don't know how to load line into the Troy Bilt Speedlock head
I just bought this thing and there are no instructions. The bump head line doesn't feed and these are usually easier. I had a single line trimmer head in my old weed eater and it was very easy.

Cut to pieces of string about 8 ft long. run your line through the holes on the side of the head. you will see 2 smaller holes on the inside. put the string in those 2 holes and begin turning your head to install the string.

Here is a video on 3 different heads. Yours is probably the first head that he demonstrates:The
only thing that is not demostrated is a left-hand vs. right-hand
trimmer. The spool retainer may twist off in the opposite direction if
you have a left-handed trimmer.
An auto feed line system will do just that and if too much line is released there is usually a cutter inside the edge of the plastic guard covering the string head. I use a Troy Built head on a 32 craftsman and I unscrew the bump knob ...twist and pull out the spring loaded spool....cut a lenth of line 6-8 feet or so....thread the two raw ends thru the two holes in the inner spool....pull them out until they are even with each other....then grasp each one and hold them side by side and wind them onto the spool in a clockwise manner. This is how I do the string head with a split boom that fits the 32cc Sears Power head (an older Troy Bilt).
The majority of the time excessive string feed is caused by one or a combination of one or more of the following:
String wound backwards. Seems simple enough, but happens to the best of us.
Missing or improper spring.
Lubrication ANYWHERE on the shaft or inside the bump head assembly. This item should be clean and dry..but never lubricated.
If you know the model number on your particular trimmer, that would assist in troubleshooting.
I've never had any luck with those stupid bump heads. Every time I would refill them, the string would get caught up. They bind up. I finally replaced the bump head with a string head that you place short pieces of string in. They're not perfect either. You have to pre-cut the string to about 9-12 inches in length, and just replace the piece when it's time.
