The 28811 does NOT come with a voicemail system. The voicemail indicator will flash to indicate you have voicemail on your telephone company's voicemail system. This system will record messages when people call while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.
With the phone off, press the #/pause button. The display will show "set ringer level 5", using the caller ID/volume button scroll to the level you want. Press the #/pause button to save your setting.
Press the mute/program button, then press the caller ID-volume button
to select handset setup. Next press caller ID-volume until you get to
Default settings. Use the caller ID-volume button to select 1yes. This
will return the phone to the factory settings and for took care of the
blinking blue light, however you will loose any custom setting or
numbers you entered.
press "mute" key to access menu, press the up or down arrow key labeled "caller ID- volume" until you get to "handset setup", press the "mute" key again, press the down or up arrow until you have "defaultsetting" selected, press "mute" key, press "1", then press "mute" once more. At this point your handset will reset clearing the indicator for all the handsets. I've had to do this twice on my phones and it worked every time.
Subscriber is T-Mobile@Home. First, cleared all messages from T-Mobile voicemail.
Now to fix your GE phone:
Push the program key.
Select Handset Setup
Push the program key
Select Default Settings
Push the program key
Select 1 Yes.
Push the program key
Hope this helps.
You must have a recorded message on the answerer in order for the machine to record messages left by callers. I would bet that there are no messages there yet. It couldn't tell callers to leave a message if there is no message there. I know there is one standard one already there and the handsets often say NEW VOICE MAIL. If the round screen on the base unit has a number there, then you have a message and all you need do is push the play button.
You did record a message on the answerer, didn't you? Mine displayed that until I recorded the outgoing message for the answerer. You do not need any service from your phone provider. The answerer in the base unit simply records the caller's message when you don't answer after a set number of rings. The manual tells you how to name the handset, which is a nice feature if you don't wish to use "unit 1, unit 2, etc".
