I have a Stihl FS45 trimmer that starts great but dies when I give it gas
If you are mechanical at all just even a little bit you can get a brand new carburetor with all the gaskets a new spark plug and air filter and fuel filter and fuel lines for less than $15 on Amazon I did that and it runs fine while you're at it get fuel stabilizer or dispose of the fuel and get fresh fuel and mix
The muffler has a pipe sticking out of it. Most likely is clogged with carbon. To take this out and clean it, you need a 15mm deep well socket and a wire brush. It's regular threaded, so lefty loosey. Once it's out of it looks like a window screen it's OK, if it's black and you can't see through it, it needs to be cleaned with the wire brush. Once it's clean reinstall, and start the unit. It should now go full throttle.
If you don't feel confident about doing this repair, the go to the closest stihl authorized dealer. We do this repair while you wait, for about $8.
Possibly spark arrestor in muffler.screw out check gause for carbon build up,clean and refit
Replace fuel filter in the tank and will be fine it is gummed up .stock part at any sthil dealer

Thanks everyone, but the problem is none of the above. It was the gas!! I am amazed that these small engines are sooooo sensitive to the gas, If the gas is older than about 30 days, it runs like **** - or not at all. I have had to dispose of way too much fuel/gas mixed because none of my Stihl tools would run with the old gas. This time I mixed Stihl fuel stabilizer with the 2 gallons of gas/oil. We'll see if it helps.
