SOURCE: Rinse water fills the washing machine when the spin cycle starts

Check your outlet filter, most likely it is blocked, preventing the water from draining out. Chk your pump too. Before this disconnect from the wall socket; and also check the pipe coming from the tub to the filter. Siphon out the excess water from inside the machine before you open the pipes.

SOURCE: whirlpool gold top load washer (7 months old) won't agitate or spin

It sounds like the motor drive coupler has broken. This means the motor is no longer turning the gearcase, but it is turning the pump. It will be repaired under warranty if it is only 7 months old. You should have a full one year warranty on the washer. If not, he can probably fix it, but it will need a new coupler. He can tilt the machine back and see the coupler between the motor and transmission from underneath. I can walk you through replacing it if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it if it is still under warranty. There could possibly be something more major wrong that has caused it to break and some of the factory servicers are real picky about customers working on a machine under warranty. If you need it running tonight, he may be in trouble.

Post back if you need further help or have more questions.

Thanks/mike

Why did my washer quit spinning out in spin cycle

Quite often the problem with spin cycles is that the cycle cannot start until a sufficient amount of wash/rinse water has drained. So what will often happen is that the washer drains, the cycle starts, a lot of water comes out of the clothes, it stops, waits for the water to drain, then restarts. If the drain pump or drain lines are restricted or blocked or the pump is faulty, the unit may never achieve spin cycle.

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Washer wont pump water unless in spin cycle

it is not supposed to pump water unless it is in the spin cycle. On most topload washers the motor turns one way for the agitate cycle and then the motor reverses during the spin/rinse cycle which in turn reverses the pump and causes it to pump the water out.
