SONY Digital Camera DSC-W50 doesn't work. Lens goes in and out...

My SONY Digital Camera DSC-W50 doesn't work. It allows me to view my pictures and videos but it doesn't let me take pictures or videos. When I turn it on the screen says "ACCESS" and this little light is blinking on and off while lens go in and out 4 times, then the screen says to turn it off and on again (doesnt work). I tried banging the bottom but it doesn't work. What should I do to fix this problem?

Hi!
Please try the under given troubleshootings:

(i) Please check if the Battery is fully charged.
(ii) Next, turn off the Camera, remove the Battery pack then press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
(iii) Then, reinsert the Battery pack and turn ON the Camera.
(iv) Next, try to access the menu options either by directly pressing the menu buttons or while reviewing the images.
(v) If the menu options are accessible while reviewing the captured images then reset the Camera to the original factory settings.
Please follow the steps given below to reset the Camera to the original factory settings:
(a) Turn ON the Camera.
(b) Access the menu screen either by directly pressing the Menu button or pressing the menu button while reviewing the captured images.
(c) If menu screen is accessible, then press the right arrow on the Control button to select (Setup) Settings, then press the right arrow again.
(d) Next, select the Setup 1 option by using left/right/up/down arrow on the control button.
(e) Then, select Initialize and OK.
(f) Finally, follow the on-screen instructions to set the clock in the Camera.

Performing the above steps will reset the Camera to the original factory settings. If the issue persists even after performing all the above steps successfully then the issue is related to hardware malfunctioning and service is required.

When I turn on my Cybershot DCS-W50, the lens cycles in and out a few times and then the message "Access" appears on the view screen. The battery is fully charged and I am able to view pictures...

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Hi!
It's probably stuck focus. Contact your local Sony service center, but if they ask too much, you can contact me at [email protected] and I will give you a good price.
I work in Sony service center.

Cybershot dsc-w50 records movies instead of pictures

I had the same problem with my camera.  I found that changing the mode from Multi Burst to Normal allows the camera to take normal pictures.  Go to Menu and scroll over to Mode, then select Normal.

Sony cybershot DSC-W50 lens problen

thats normal.
it just doesn't have enough power to bring the lense back in.
once you charge your battery and turn it on the lense will automatically come back in and then out for you to take a picture.

This is a hardware problem. Your simptons is tipical of a lens position sensor being faulty.

There is however nothing you can do yourself. Contact your nearest Sony dealer and take the camera to a Sony service centre.

They will quote you for a new lens assembly as they will not be able to replace the sensor only.

Cost should be about 1/2 of what you paid for the camera.

Good luck.
